An 18th Century mahogany commode with three quarter galleried lift up top above lift top seat, flamed mahogany front, raised on square sectioned legs to brass caps and castors CONDITION REPORTS Some ring marks. Deep marks, scratches, impressed marks, dark marks, etc, some damage to the top, some losses, cracks and splits including in two significant places (see images). Sides marked. Some splits to the right side. Bowl has crazing and cracks, some damage and repair to left front and some signs of woodworm to the front. A late 19th Century French kingwood, satinwood, floral marquetry and gilt metal mounted bombe commode in the Louis XV taste:, surmounted by a panel of rouge variegated marble with a serpentine moulded edge, containing two long drawers with gilt metal acanthus handle pulls and escutcheons, the cartouche panels to the sides decorated with loose bouquets of flowers and foliage, within foliate scroll surrounds, on splayed bracket feet, headed with cabochon foliate ornament, 92cm (3ft 0 1/4in) wide.

There are various faults and chips. The chest has splits in several places, various scratches, knocks, chips, has been patched in places, is missing veneer in several places especially to the lower edges and feet. One handle is loose but present. The back is warped and bowing out at the top and stained. Drawer liners have some splits and cracks. Discolouration, staining and water marks to the wood. General wear and tear.
