An exceptional 18th Century French 'Regence' ormolu mounted olivewood, rosewood, burr elm and walnut inlaid Commode, attributed to Thomas Hache (1664 - 1747), the top with geometric designs and a moulded gilt bronze edging, over two short and two long drawers each crossbanded, and brass mounted borders and with ornate central and side lock escutcheons over ornate turned and heavy floral heavy ormolu drop handles, side flanks with inverted reeded brass columns, each side with lozenge tablet inlay and central ormolu female figure heads over a shaped apron with mounted ormolu C scroll, shell type decoration, approx. 122cms wide x 87cms high x 65cms deep (48" x 34" x 25 1/2"). An attractive 19th Century mahogany Commode, with shaped speckled marble top over three short and two long drawers with brass rims and drop handles, flanked by half reeded columns on ormolu mounted circular reeded legs, 128cms wide x 58cms deep (50" x 22 1/2"). A late 18th / early 19th century kingwood bombe commode. The metamorphic top folding and converting two a two tier shelf, with a side drawer and two candle slides. With three graduated drawers having ormolu scrollwork handles and raised on splay bracket supports, 88cm wide, 76cm high, 57cm deep.Condition report intended as a guide only.Left slide missing handle. Some slight veneer chips. No key. Good colour.

A coloured design for a closely related satinwood commode appears in the Gillows pattern book (Westminster City Archives, no.735/1). A sketch for a commode with banding and a design of handle almost identical to the present lot is included in Gillows Estimate Sketch Books, dated 24th October 1789 (see L. Boynton, Gillow Furniture Designs, 1760-1800, Royston, 1995, fig.118, pl.11, pp 168 and 180).
