A good French walnut and marble top large commode chest of drawers. Raised on bun feet with a series of wide and deep drawers having shaped pull handles flanked by columns to the sides. Solid oak drawer linings within. Above a good veined marble top. Matching bedsides in lot 1458. Measures 105cm x 130cm x 61cm.
A pair of Royal Doulton Huntley & Palmers biscuit boxes No.459880 , modelled in the form of a 18th Century bombe commode, baring scenes of childrens nursery rhymes to lids ' the old woman, who lived in a shoe ' and ' little Tom Tucker ', early green marks applied to bottom. Please refer to images, damage to ' little Tom Tucker '. Measures 14cm tall. Note; from an extensive private collection of Royal Doulton. The vast majority of items are free from any damage or restoration, and are in great condition. Buyers are reminded for the need to satisfy themselves as to condition of individual lots prior to bidding as condition on some, will vary.
A pair of early George III mahogany night tables, with trellis and florette carved galleries, cupboards and drawers, lacking pans, on square chamfered legs and brass casters (2) 78 x 53 x 45cm (30 x 21 x 18in) They are both suffering from split top and side panels and one has a section of leg missing, part being the slide out commode drawer. Both drawers remain unconverted.
A 19th Century French demi-lune cream painted Commode, with inset marble top above two central doors with central drawer and two curved side drawers opening on single spigot, the overall highlighted in gilt decoration and with four painted panels of female figures, on four square tapering legs, approx. 104cms w x 89cms h (41" x 39"). Console baroque en bois doré, de style Louis XV de forme chantourée en chêne mouluré, plateau de marbre lie-de-vin brèche et veiné, probablement un granit du Gothard. H. 81x82,5x43 cm. Référence: Il est toujours difficile d'attribuer la fabrication d'une console à un maître car celles-ci étaient créées par le menuisier ornemaniste qui prenait en charge toutes les boiseries de l'édifice pour former un ensemble cohérent. La console, contrairement à la commode est le meuble qui s'est le plus développé sous le style Louis XV. Du fait qu'elle est fixée au mur, la console est en quelque sorte une extension de l'ornement mural et s'autorise une grande liberté dans ses lignes, pieds ondulant à l'extrême, exubérance de la noix d'entretoise, la ceinture en bandeau de plateaux à décor coquilles et fleurs flirtant avec le déséquilibre, etc. Cf.
