A French mahogany and gilt metal mounted commode, in Louis XVI style by Maxime Secrtant, Paris, circa 1900, with veined yellow marble top above three short drawers and cupboards, on turned legs, the back stamped M.SECRETANT above interlinked monogram MS, 106cm high, 165cm wide, 62cm deep. For a French coiffuese by Maxime Secretant see Christie’s, 24 September 2008, London, King Street, Lot 102. Maxime Secretant established his workshop at 74, rue Amelot, Paris towards the end of the 19th century, where he produced fine quality furniture in the 18th century style. For some time he worked in association with his half-brother Léon Duval, who had been an apprentice with Gervais Durand, the well known ébéniste. Due to economic pressures, Secretant was forced to sell the contents of his workshop by auction at L’Hôtel Drouot on 26 November 1935.

A George III Mahogany Serpentine Front Commode, in the manner of Gillows, late 18th century, the moulded top above four oak lined graduated drawers, the top drawer fitted with a sliding green baize lined writing surface and an arrangement of lidded compartments, hinged writing surface and dividers for razors or combs, the right side of the drawer with small pull-out drawer fitted with two ink bottles, all between canted sides and raised on bracket feet, 102cm by 56cm by 84cm The commode toilet drawer is similar to the Duke of Dorset`s commode.
