Pair of bronze 16 bore signal cannons, SEE FOOTNOTE REGARDING MARKS 17.5" barrels the breeches stamped with devices of an X and HEIC, the underside each cannon engraved with a large 'X' and stamped ISSC 1910 and 10SSC1910, recently remounted into waxed oak naval carriages by R. Webster of castcannons.co.uk, together with earlier carriages bearing label stating that these cannons were presented to the Isle of Skye Sailing club in 1910 (hence stamps to undersides) by Lord Kingsburgh (Sir John Hay MacDonald) the then commode of the sailing club. The labels also state that the cannons were brought back from India in 1906 after the completion of Lord Kingsburgh's assessment of Indian tactics and military readiness for the new century and that the guns were reputedly signal cannon from a fortified garrison post in the Punjab area.Section 58(2) Antique /obsolete calibre, can be owned without a licence. The marks applied to the barrels of these cannons is not known for certain. There are a whole new set of stamped marks which have been applied to the cannons once they came into the ownership of the Isle of Skye Sailing club, the X HEIC marks look to have been added later and probably at the same time as the other stamped marks which is perhaps why they do not look entirely correct.
