A TYROLEAN OAK, BURR MAPLE, WALNUT AND MARQUETRY SERPENTINE COMMODE MID-18TH CENTURY The top inlaid with a pair of doves bearing rosehips in their beaks, above three long drawers with panels of inlaid strapwork and perching doves and with patterned paper lining, the bottom drawer divided, the sides depicting perching doves bearing flowers, on turned feet, possibly slightly reduced in depth 81cm high, 130cm wide, 67cm deep Condition Report: Overall in good clean condition, with dents marks and scratches and shrinkage cracks due to age and use. The shrinkage causing localised damage to the marquetry and with consequential small repairs. Repairs to drawer edges where the overhanging mouldings were damaged. One bottom board loose in the second drawer. Divisions in the bottom drawer are old if not original. The drawer handles and escutcheons probably later. Locks apparently original and the paper lining is old but most likely 19th century. The feet apparently original. As noted the carcase has possibly been slightly reduced in depth, this is suggested by the `cutting off' of the strapwork decoration to the sides, and by the removal of front-to-back bearers within the carcase (between the drawers), the drawers however appear to be of their original depth.Condition Report Disclaimer
