A 19th century mahogany line inlaid commode in the form of a four-drawer bachelor's chest, the hinged upper section opening to reveal a ceramic liner with lid, raised on bracket feet, dimensions when closed 77 x 64 x 45cm (af). CONDITION REPORT There is a notable split across the top, with further scuffs and scrapes visible. The upper left hand faux drawer handle is a replacement and the loop handle is detached but present. The front bracket foot is also detached but present. Further signs of general wear throughout, including scuffs, scrapes, fading, staining, splits, etc.

Louis XV-Kommode gestempelt „DAUTRICHE“ und „JME“ (Jurande des Menuisiers Ébénistes)Höhe: 89 cm.Breite: 140 cm.Tiefe: 64 cm. Paris, um 1765.Zweischübiger, leicht bombierter Eichenkorpus mit reicher Marketerie in verschiedenen Hölzern. Üppiges Beschlagwerk in feuervergoldeter Bronze. Die allseitig schräg gestellten Füße laufen gratig in die Ecken ein, unten säbelförmig sich verjüngend. Das Frontfeld, in heller Wirkung mit V-fömig verlegtem Furnier, wird dunkel gerahmt. Im hellen Mittelfeld, das sich über die beiden Schübe hinweg ausbreitet, in zarten Holztönen eingelegte Blütenzweige, Rosensträuße, größere und kleinere Blätter. Die Blattformen grün getönt, die Blüten in zarten Farben bis hin zu violett-rot abgestuft. Die Mitte wird betont durch ein in großzügigem Schwung eingelegtes Bandwerk, das eine leicht nierenförmige Mittelfeldbegrenzung umschließt, in geschickter Weise seitlich unterhalb der vergoldeten Henkelzüge durchlaufend. Zughenkel und Schlüsselbeschläge braun unterlegt, wie auch die Applikation an der mittleren Zarge, die in äußerst eleganten C- und S-Bögen mit eingearbeiteten Blüten gearbeitet ist. An den Seiten der Kommode ebenfalls V-förmige Verlegung des hellen Bildfeldes, darauf jeweils ein Blumenstrauß. Abschließende Marmorplatte in höchst seltener Ziegelrot-, Gelb- und Grausprenkelung. An den Rändern fein profiliert und gerundet. Zarge mit Schlagstempel „DAUTRICHE“ für Jacques van Oostenryk (Meister ab 1765, gest. 1778). Alte Schlösser und Schlüssel. Rest., erg.Literatur: Vgl. Dieser nach vorn und zu den Seiten bombiert sowie allseits mit Bois d'Amourette auf Eiche furniert sowie mit vergoldeten gegossenen und fein ziselierten Beschlägen versehen. Den Zügen des Möbels folgende, messingumrandete ebenfalls furnierte Deckplatte.Anmerkung: Eine ähnliche Kommode als Bureau aus der Sammlung Madame L. M. wurde am 2. und 3. Fünfschübiger Korpus sans travers mit zusammengefassten Eckkartuschen, vergoldeten und ziselierten Lorbeerblattringhandhaben sowie Louis XVI-Schleifen über Schlüsselschildern. Die oberen drei Schübe durch einen vergoldeten Profilreif umfangen, mittig mit risalitartig hervorspringendem Vorbau. Den Zügen des Möbels folgende profilierte Marmordeckplatte.Anmerkung: Lacroix war Meister ab dem 06. Februar 1755. Dreischübige Louis XV-Kommode mit MarmorplatteHöhe: 85 cm.Breite: 131 cm.Tiefe: 70 cm. Frankreich, 18. Jahrhundert.Korpusaufbau in Weichholz, Inneneinbauten in Eiche. Die dreischübige Front mittig konvex vorschwingend, zu den Seiten hin zurückgeführt. Die Ecken in konvex-konkavem Schwung, kantig vortretend, ziehen in schräg gestellte Stollenbeine ein, die mit geschwungener Zarge zur Mitte ziehen und dort eine herabgeführte Zunge ausbilden. Schönes Intarsienfurnier in Nussholz, Amarantholz und anderen Zierhölzern, jeweils felderbildende dunklere Bandeinlagen, die sich in den Feldern x-förmig weiterentwickeln. Die obere Schubzone dreigeteilt: Zwei seitliche Schübe flankieren eine hochrechteckige kleinere Schubfront. Schwere, fein gearbeitete, vergoldete Beschläge. An den Ecken kräftige blattförmige Sabots, die sich nach oben fortsetzen und unter der Platte jeweils eine nahezu vollplastische Maske ausbilden. Große rocailleförmige Schlüsselbeschläge. Seitlich bewegliche Zughenkel an rosettenförmigen Applikationen mit auszackenden Blättern. An der Zargenzunge entsprechendes asymmetrisches Beschlagwerk mit seitlichen Flügelformen. Die Marmorplatte in grau und weiß gesprenkeltem, altrosafarbenem Marmor. Die original Schlösser in die Schübe eingelassen, mit Messingabdeckungen. AN EMPIRE MAHOGANY, GILT METAL MOUNTED AND MARBLE TOPPED SECRETAIRE ABBATTANT AND COMMODE EN SUITEEARLY 19TH CENTURYThe fall front enclosing recesses and drawersThe secretaire 142.5cm high, 94cm wide, 43cm deep, the commode 88.5cm high, 130cm wide, 62cm deep Provenance: Property from the Kingshott CollectionCondition Report: There are some marks, scratches, knocks, chips and abrasions consistent with age and use.The marble top with scratches, nibbles and chips.There are losses and restorations including the handles to the top drawer under close inspection are slightly different to the other lion mask handles, slightly less well defined and with slightly thinner rings; there is some filler including to the edge of the top drawer; the tooled and gilt tooled black leather inset is later; some veneer indentations corresponding to underlying constructional movement.The locks are later. There is one key to operate the drawer locks. There is no key to operate the fall front lock, which is open and the fall cannot be locked or fixed in the upright position.The drawer linings are oak.The backboards are of panelled construction.The carved front feet are ebonised and have evidence of worm and some cracks. Catalogue Note A commode with very similar painted panels is in the Victoria and Albert Museum, no.636:1 to :22-1870 and is illustrated on the front cover of Ralph Fastnedge, Sheraton Furniture.

A FRENCH LOUIS XVI KINGWOOD AND MARQUETRY SECRETAIRE ABATTANT BY FRANCOIS BAYER, C.1780 with ormolu mounts and inlaid with various woods, including: purpleheart and fruitwoods, with lattice work, panels of ribbon tied musical trophies and an urn, the grey marble moulded edge top above a frieze drawer and a hinged fall, revealing an interior fitted with six drawers and a later gilt tooled leather writing surface, the base with a pair of cupboard doors, enclosing a shelf 138.3cm high, 95.3cm wide, 38.5cm deep Provenance Redlynch House, Salisbury, Wiltshire. Catalogue Note Francois Bayer was made maitre on the 5th December 1764. See the Victoria and Albert Museum, Accession Number 1065:1 to 3-1882 for a marquetry table by Bayer.
