A pair of French mahogany and gilt bronze mounted clothes presses, by Francois Linke, in Louis XVI style, late 19th/ early 20th century, each mottled marble top above a pair of drawers and a pair of cupboard doors, opening to a shelved interior, above three further drawers, flanked overall by corner mounts cast with scrolling acanthus and trailing flowers, on outswept cabriole shaped legs terminating in sabots, 162cm high, 130cm wide, 49cm deep For examples of bedroom furniture by Francois Linke that appear positively to match the current lot (be from the same suite) see Christie s, The Collector, 16th November 2017, Lot 526. The overall design, design of the mounts and use of specific bréche d Alep marble tops match the current lot. The suite offered at Christie s included a commode with dressing mirror (lockplate signed CT/LINKE ), a bedstead, a cheval mirror and a bedside cabinet. Another matching suite of bedroom furniture by Linke and containing a chest (or press) matching those currently being offered was offered by Christie s (New York, The Opulent Eye, 18th November 2014, Lot 131) The same suite included a cheval mirror, a bedside table, a lady s dressing table (the lockplates of the chest also stamped CT LINKE ). An Italian walnut commode, second half 17th century, the moulded rectangular top above a shallow frieze drawer with handles formed as Blackamoor busts, the three further long drawer mounted with scroll cast handles centred by a stylised mask, the moulded plinth base incorporating outset corners and block feet, 96cm high, 145cm wide, 72 cm deep
An early 18th Century Maltese olive wood and parquetry serpentine commode, the crossbanded top above three drawers with brass swan neck handles supported by Maltese lions, with shaped apron beneath, on carved cabriole legs, 117cm wide/see illustration Condition Report: The top has extensive cracks to the veneer and some veneer lifting and three small patches, banding to rim lifting in places, small areas missing, half of front left corner replaced, some areas of veneer lifting and missing, front handles replaced, small area to side of top drawer edge missing, areas of cross grain veneer between drawers missing and lifting. Middle drawer banding left edge missing, bottom drawer banding to rim top right 1” missing. Extensive areas of cross grain veneer missing to the apron, left side panel loose with cracks and veneer losses to edge. Right side with cracks and lifting to veneer, feet scuffed but otherwise ok. Overall in need of careful restoration.
A fine quality burr amboyna, partridgewood, ebony and marble side cabinet or commode, c.1900, in the Regency Egyptian Revival manner, the mottled grey marble top with cut front corners, over a single frieze drawer and pair of doors flanked by faux fluted ebony and boxwood pilasters terminating in Egyptian masks, opening to reveal a bank of four mahogany drawers with turned ebony handles and edge banding, lined in mahogany and cedar wood, on an ebony plinth base with brass castors, 35½ x 19¾in. (90 x 50cm.), 34¼in. (86.5cm.) high.
