AN 18TH CENTURY MAHOGANY AND MARQUETRY TOILET COMMODE The lift-up top opening to reveal a mirror and vacant spaces for toilet wares, the top inlaid with a laurel swagged urn, the front with a false drawer above a deep drawer, inlaid with writing implements beneath a couronne and swags. The chamfered corners with floral pendants, the sides with a florette trellis marquetry, on cabochon, slight cabriole feet, 34 1/4ins. (87cms.) wide x 31 1/2ins.(80cms.) high x 23 1/2ins. Commode in arte povera, probabilmente Veneto, fine XVIII. Quattro gambe ad obelisco rovesciato supportano un corpo laccato in color nocciola, il piano è marmorizzato in verde, mentre il fronte dei quattro cassetti e i fianchi sono decorati con figurine ritagliate, colorate ed incollate formanti gradevoli paesaggi animati. La bottega dei fratelli Remondini di Bassano del Grappa era nota nel corso del XVIII secolo per stampare gli album con queste figurine , che venivano poi applicate ai mobili, destinati per lo più alle abitazioni di campagna. Questa tecnica prendeva il nome di Arte Povera in quanto realizzata in maniera economica, mentre i mobili per i palazzi di città che venivano laccati, dorati e dipinti a mano, talvolta da noti pittori erano assai più costosi. Commode in parqueterie, Roma, metà del XVIII secolo. bellissimo modello romano, questa commode è lastronata a rombi su tutte le superfici. Fortemente bombata sul fronte e sui fianchi è svasata nella parte superiore ed un largo piano di lavoro fuoriesce da sotto la mensa. Due cassetti senza traverse e corte gambe terminanti con puntali in bronzo cesellato e dorato caratterizzano maggiormente questo eccezionale mobile.
