A George III mahogany, marquetry and blind fretwork serpentine commode, circa 1770, 94cm high 112cm wide, 60cm deep (faults). The elegant serpentine form of this commode relates to various designs for 'French Commodes' by Thomas Chippendale,The Gentleman and Cabinet -Maker's Director , 3rd Edition, 1764, pls LXIV- LXXX. This commode has several similar attributes to an example sold from the contents of Barnwell Manor, Northamptonshire by Sothebys, 28-30 May 2002, particularly in terms of proportion and the blind fretwork decorated angles. Comparable commodes have also been offered in the following previous sales: Sotheby's London 19 November 1993 Lot 68, a pair sold at Christie's London 19 April 1990 Lot 109. An early 19th century mahogany and satinwood commode, the rectangular top crossbanded and inlaid stringing above a pair of conforming doors enclosing three drawers, the top drawer with a dummy front, fitted replaced brass rococo style handles, on later bracket feet, 36in (91.6cm) h, 43.25in (109.5cm) w, 20.5in (52.2cm) d.
A harewood and marquetry serpentine front commode, with gilt metal mounts, inlaid with satinwood fan paterae, scrolls of flowers and foliage, with a frieze drawer above a tambour shutter on square tapering legs to spade feet, probably Dutch 18th century but reconstructed, 32.25in (81.7cm) h, 35.5in (90.2cm) w, 23.25in (59cm) d.
An Adams style inlaid satinwood demi-lune commode late 20th century, maker Martin L. Dodge, Wincanton, Somerset, the top with rosewood cross banding, central scrolling patera and swagged green stained leaf inlay, above a concealed frieze drawer with green stained swag inlay, above a rosewood crossbanded door enclosing a single shelf, with central circular cartouche of a classical maiden with a tulip and bow border, the sides inlaid with urns, raised on square section supports, 36in (91cm) wide x 36.25in (92cm) high.
A small early 19th century mahogany chest of drawers converted from a commode, the top with inlaid satinwood banding and boxwood edging, over four graduated long drawers with boxwood edging and the original brass handles with pressed brass backplates on shaped bracket feet, 25in. (64cm.) wide, 17.75in. (45cm.) deep, 27.75in. (70.5cm.) high.
A Rare, Fabulous Quality Louis XV Burr Ash Commode Attributed to Hache of Grenoble. The serpentine front top above three long swept drawers with lip moulded edges and fine gilded swing handles on petalled mounts & petalled escutcheons contrasting with the strikingly figured timbers. The serpentine sides sweeping down to form the tapering outswept feet, 33 ins (84 cms) high, 51 ins (130 cms) wide, 26½ ins (67.5 cms) deep.
A late Victorian satinwood, marquetry and painted demi-lune commode, decorated with palmettes, scrolling foliage and floral swags, the centre doors painted with cherubs, with a frieze drawer (locked) above three cupboards (two locked) on square tapering legs to spade feet, 34in (86.2cm) h, 36in (91.4cm) w ,17in (43.4cm) d. Section of moulding off, but present.
