A FINE SATINWOOD AND MARQUETRY INLAID SEMI-ELLIPTICAL COMMODE, BY JAMES HICKS OF DUBLIN, the rosewood banded top inlaid with a half patera with floral bandings with an outer band of stylised flower heads, and a band of flowerheads, and harebells, over a pair of glazed panel doors, enclosing a shelved interior, with marquetry panels of garden trophies to either side, on short tapering supports. (now with a plate glass top) 107 cm wide
A George III mahogany bedside cabinet, converted from a commode, with tray type top, tambour front and false drawer and raised on legs of square section. Width 20 cm. CONDITION REPORT: Height at tallest 76 cm, width 51 cm, depth 46 cm. The gallery is in good condition. The top is slightly warped but not cracked. There are numerous old watermarks and scratches to the top surface but no significant issues. The sides of the piece have old stress fractures to the timber but no significant gaps or issues. The rear of the piece similarly has stress fractures. The legs are all in good condition. The sliding tambour front is damaged and in three pieces. None of it is missing. The handles are original and the front slides out to a drawer. It is not fitted.
An early 20th century French parquetry bombe commode chest, with serpentine variegated marble top, fitted with a series of frieze drawers with brass drop handles and raised on short splayed bracket feet. Width 123 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The commode is in generally good condition. The marble top has no cracks and no repairs. There are some very minor nibbles to the rear corners and back edge but no significant problems. The top has some very minor scratches. The veneers to the drawer fronts are all in very good condition generally. There are one or two very minor repairs which should be visible from our image. There is a veneer loss to the rear left hand top corner and a small veneer repair to the crossbanding above the parquetry on the same side. There are minor veneer repairs to the rear of the left leg. There are minor veneer scratches and chips around the front right hand leg. The backboards are original and in good condition. All of the metalwork seems to be present and not loose. The piece is structurally very sound.
