Titel auf VDeckel, floraler Innenkantenvergoldung, Vorsätzen aus Seide mit floraler Einwebung sowie dreiseitigem Goldschnitt. Wohl privat zusammengestelltes Album einer Reise nach Palästina und Syrien im Jahr 1892 (DTitel). Zu dieser Zeit unternahm auch der spätere Orientalist und Archäologe Max von Oppenheim seine erste große Forschungsreise in den Nahen Osten und entdeckte wenige Jahre später Tell Halaf. - Teils minimal fleckig u. etw. verblasst. Insgesamt sehr gut erhalten. Album with 108 large-format photographs of Syria and Palestine. Each albumen print on photographic paper. Mostly with illuminated inscription, numbering and signature. Each firmly mounted in a decorative album with mounted ornamental frame and gilt title on the front cover, floral gilt edges, silk endpapers with floral weaving and gilt edges on three sides. - Presumably privately compiled album of a trip to Palestine and Syria in 1892 (cover title). - Depicted: Panorama as well as market scene of Jaffa. - Some photographs of Jerusalem, including the Damascus Gate, the David's Citadel, the interior of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre with the Anointing Stone, the Church of Mary Magdalene on the Mount of Olives, etc. - A view of Bethany (today's Al-Eizariya). - Pilgrims in Betlehem and other views of interiors, market scenes, etc. - A Bedouin camp. - The Damascus Gate and the Temple of Jupiter in Damascus, etc. - A panoramic view of Beirut, with the Lebanon Mountains in the background. - The ancient ruins in Palmyra. - Dome of Baalbek. - Portrait of a Syrian Bedouin shepherd in traditional costume, etc. - With mounted, partial colored map of Palestine (Kiepert, Reimer, 1891) and enclosed 2 folded. ll. handwritten description of the individual photographs in German. - Bonfils a French bookbinder and photographer who worked primarily in the Middle East. - Extensive compilation of orig. photographs compiled by a traveler at the end of the 19th century. At this time, the later orientalist and archaeologist Max von Oppenheim also made his first major research trip to the Middle East and discovered Tell Halaf a few years later. - Partly minimally spotted a. somewhat faded. Altogether very well preserved.
