The Lock Gate with figures to the foreground, the lock keeper and travellers with a heavy horse oil on canvas, unframed 144 x 115cmFootnote: Provenance: Private collection, London A possible attribution to Robert Burrows of Ipswich (1810-1883) can be considered.Condition report: Oil on canvas which has been lined. The canvas is in plane with good tension. The paint layer is stable although there are a few localised paint losses. There is extensive retouching across the surface covering drying cracks, these are fairly well matched to the original. There is a small damage below the trees to the right which has been crudely retouched. The varnish is yellowed and semi-matte.
