A 19th century mahogany gate leg drop leaf table, 116 cm diameter Condition report Report by GHOpen length is 137 cm, height is 71 cm.Issues on both sides, where the leaves fold up to meet the middle.On one side, a section of the leaf, where it meets the middle is broken off and missing, this is approx. 8 cm long at one end. On the other side, one of the hinges is broken and there are chips and gashes between where the leaf meets the table. This leaf also does not meet the central section very well.Table top has general age related scratches, dents, and chips commensurate with age.Legs in reasonable condition.No obvious restoration.
BARRIE J. M.: (1860-1937) Scottish Novelist, created Peter Pan. A.L.S., J. M. Barrie, one page, 8vo, Lancaster Gate, 2nd December 1905, to Mr. Hammerton. Barrie writes, in full, 'I don't have a thing, and am very sorry. May the magazine flourish under you. And thank you for your pleasant words about my plays'. With blank integral leaf. VG Barrie correspondent is most likely to be John Alexander Hammerton (1871-1949) Scottish Journalist and Editor of encyclopedias and other reference works. Hammerton had joined Alfred Harmsworth's Amalgamated Press in 1905, the same year as the present letter, and would later edit a biography of Barrie.
BAIRD JOHN LOGIE: (1888-1946) British Engineer and Inventor of the world's first working television system. A.L.S., J. L. Baird, one page, 8vo, Lancaster Gate, London, 12th January 1946, to a gentleman [Ron Clayden], marked in Baird's hand Television Research. Baird writes in response to his correspondent's letter and adds that he would be obliged if Clayden would call on him on Wednesday 16th at 6pm. Rare. A couple of extremely light, minor creases, VG Accompanied by a typed statement signed by the recipient of the letter, Ron Clayden, giving some background information as to Baird's request for an appointment with him, in part, 'I joined EMI Research Laboratories in April 1935 and worked on television broadcasting equipment….After I had been in the team for probably less than a year I was involved….in dismantling some old equipment, in particular a large bank of photocells….In the same room were a mirror drum and a Nipkow Disc. These were engineered to a very high standard. They were no longer used as EMI were, at that time, developing an electronic television system using the EMItron pick up tube….At a much [later] stage in my career I replied to an advertisement by J. L. Baird for a television research engineer. I was invited to an interview….when I got there I spoke to Baird on the telephone. He explained that he was ill and in bed. He agreed to see me. I told him about myself and he then advised me to stay with EMI as my prospects with them would be better than he could offer.'

CONDITION REPORT: Silks generally clean with some minor spotting to mounts, some framed and frames generally worn, one with chip to side.
A 19th Century Continental Six-Shot Pinfire Revolver, with 16 cm circular section barrel, foliate-engraved cylinder and frame, hinged loading gate, chequered grip scales, steel lanyard ring; and another, similar example (A/F) (2)First example - Fairly heavy rusting and pitting to frame. Action working though trigger not returning. Both grip scales with rubbing and other damages. Second example - Poor condition overall. Heavily rusted. Action not working. Parts lacking.
