Ossie Clark for Radley Cream Moss Crepe Mini Dress, with long sleeves, mounted with cream satin type fabric to the collar, shoulders, bodice front and cuffs, four covered buttons with loop fastening to the chest, flared a-line short skirt with fabric ties to the waist (size 12) The vendor wore this for her wedding on 28th August 1973 aged 19, at the time the vendor was working at John Players & Son in Nottingham, the dress cost about £20 at the time equal to a weeks wages. It was purchased from Birdcage Boutique, 24 Bridlesmith Gate, Nottingham, established by Janet Campbell.Campbell cut her professional teeth in the burgeoning rag trade of Swinging London before heading home to open Birdcage, a youth-oriented boutique that made many of its own clothes in a back room, to keep up with the fast-changing trends of the time. Her efforts seem to have been both an instant success and a catalyst for local fashion in general, inspiring a host of imitators. Paul Smith was employed to run the men's section of the boutique, four years later he set up his own shop on Byard Lane. The boutique continued through to the 1990s and then closed it's doors. A couple of thread pulls to one shoulder. Some brown spotting to the lower part of the waist tie, and to the skirt. See extra images.
