Sir Godfrey Kneller and Studio (British, 1646-1723) Portrait Martha Lovelace, head and shoulders, in a blue dress and pink cloak, oil on canvas, oval 74 x 60cm (29 x 23in) The sitter has been identified as:Martha Lovelace, daughter and heiress of MP and bon viveur John Lovelace, and the second wife of Henry Johnson, MP.She lived at The Gate House, Blackwall, Middlesex, became 8th Baroness Wentworth and died in 1745Some surface scratches, old gilt frame needs attention. Old label to the reverse "Mrs Henry John *** ".
§ Stanley Orchart (British, 1920-2005) The Ethelbert Gate, Norwich Cathedral signed "Orchart '74" in pencil lower left watercolour 35 x 46cm (14 x 18in) Provenance: T C Eaton Collection, 1974, and thence by descent Exhibited: Norwich, Buxton Mill Galleries, Exhibition No. 58 Other Notes: Stanley Orchart studied at Leeds School of Art and was known for his beautiful portrayals of the English countryside in both oils and watercolour. He was in demand for commissions and Her Majesty the Queen Mother was a major patron of his work. Orchart's work is now in public and private collections around the world. Stanley Orchart lived in Great Staughton, Cambridgeshire, and spent most of his life working in his home county of Bedfordshire and in East Anglia.
