Bore pitted. Brown patching and minor pitting to metalwork. Bruising to butt.

The Bible, that is The Holy Scriptures conteined in the Olde and Newe Testament, 3 parts in 1, Geneva version, this issue with "Esther i.1:... seven and twen/ty provinces", double column, additional woodcut title within heart-shaped border, bound with Sternhold & Hopkins Psalms at end, numerous woodcuts, ruled in red throughout, browned, some slight staining in margins, new endpapers, ink ownership inscriptions of Humfrey Tomlinson: "Humfrey Tomlinson his Booke at the Inner Temple gate Milliner 1649" and family registers of the Tomlinson and later Busby families at beginning and end, also later ink signature and bookplate of William Andrews and a modern circular bookplate on front endpapers, contemporary black polished morocco with ornate gilt wheel decoration with central flowers, in centre and corners on both covers, within gilt panelled borders, some retouching of the gilt, lacks clasps, recased, slightly rubbed,spine creased and with a few small holes, [Herbert 249], London [?Amsterdam], Imprinted... by the Deputies of Christopher Barker, 1599 [c. 1633]. ⁂ An interesting provenance and a continuance of ownership of a London estate through several generations of the same family. Humphrey Tomlinson (d. 1685), Milliner and Blacksmith of Saint Dunstan in the West, City of London. Tomlinson died in 1685, leaving his estates to his daughter, Anne Busby, for her lifetime and afterwards to his grandson, Tomlinson Busby. The land remained in the possession of the Busby family until the death of the Reverend William Beaumont Busby, Dean of Rochester, in 1820. In his will the Dean left his freehold and copyhold property at Kensington Gore to Robert Aldridge, esquire, of Cork, under the condition that Aldridge adopted the name of Busby in addition to his own surname. Aldridge, or Robert Aldridge Busby, as he was thereafter known, complied, and on his death in c. 1837 his son, John Aldridge, inherited the estate.
