'Cabool Gate, Ghuznee, July 26, 1839', by Sir Henry Durand, pencil sketch on paper, laid down on card, inscribed and dated lower left, some surface marks and light overall toning, additionally inscribed to verso in pencil 'Sir Henry Durand. Evidently the first sketch he made of the Ghuznee Gate which you know he blew up as a young R.E.', and also in ink 'Father's Ghuznee Sketch', 25.5 x 37 cm (10 x 14.5 ins), together with a collection of 44 other sketches of Indian scenes, figures and costume, landscapes, etc., mostly 1890s-1900s, apparently drawn by Mrs Duncan, wife of Canon Duncan of the St. John's Mission, Nazareth, Tinnevelly, South India, many inscribed or captioned, various sizes, but also including a pencil sketch of an old Indian monument by Sir Henry Durand, inscribed in pencil to verso 'a drawing by Sir Henry Durand given to Dad by Marion Rivett-Carnac (Dad's eldest sister)', all contained in 20th century portfolio (Qty: 45)Sir Henry Marion Durand (1812-1871) served in the First Anglo-Afghan War of 1839-42, the Second Anglo-Sikh War of 1848-49, and was Resident of Gwalior 1849-1852. His son Sir Henry Mortimer Durand served in the Indian Civil Service. Perhaps his most famous exploit was to blow open the northern gate of the formidable Ghazni fortress while serving as an Officer of the Bengal Engineers, which led to the capture of the whole fortress. The Cabool Gate at Ghuzni was breached on the 23rd July, 1839, just three days before the present sketch was made.

FOREWORD The Burger Cinema Equipment Collection, Lots 264 to 289 Germain Burger (1900-1985) was a highly experienced British cinematographer, film director and occasional producer; his father and brothers were also experienced cinematographers. His long career included photographing the Eille Norwood Sherlock Holmes films in the early 1920s, working on documentaries and feature films in the 1930s and 1940s as cinematographer and director. Among his final films was 'The Construction of Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral' in 1966. A Disassembled Debrie Le Parvo 35mm Camera, a collection of Le Parvo camera parts, circa 1920, P, incomplete, possibly from more than camera, including a wooden front panel with brass lens mount and a circular cutout, with a manufacturer's plate stating Le Parvo, J Debrie, Constructeur, 111 Rue St Maur, Paris, a round brass owner's plate on the opposite side hand inscribed F Cadman (possibly Frank Cadman, film director, 1898-1980), a wooden back plate with cutouts for footage and speed indicators, a speed indicator dial, wooden side and top panels, an intermittent movement chassis, a Parvo Model J metal gate assembly, serial no. 1343, an Andre Debrie 110 volts 16 images motor, an eyepiece tube, several rotary shutter blades, a small crank handle, a quantity of 35mm film magazines, gears, a wooden tripod, other parts and a Brachyscope Optis Paris projection lens

A bi-colour gold gate type bracelet, with integral clasp and safety chain, clasp stamped '9ct D&F', weight 15.3gms CONDITION REPORT: Showing signs of wear commensurate with having been worn on a regular basis surface scratching dents and some splitting evident throughout, clasp still works and secure.
