A World War I Casualty Group awarded to 2340 Rifleman Garth Ivor Hughes-Roberts of A Company 1st/12th Battalion the London Regiment (The Rangers) comprising 1914-15 Star, 1914-18 Medal and Great War for Civilisation Medal, Rifleman Hughes-Roberts was killed on the 8th of May 1915 and his memorial is at Ypres (Menin Gate) memorial, panel 54, accompanying this lot are the original packets the medals were issued in, a letter from the Record Office regarding the late Rifleman Hughes-Roberts and a medal leaflet, also included in this lot is another World War Medal Group awarded to 4400 Private H Williams of the Royal Welsh Fusiliers comprising 1914-18 Medal and Great War for Civilisation Medal, another medal group awarded to 1615 Private H T Abbott of the Surrey Yeomanry comprising 1914-15 Star and Great War for Civilisation Medal including original packet of issue, also included is Private Abbots identity disc and an identity bracelet, also two silver war service badges, a scout badge, Crawfords biscuit badge, machine gun corp badge, Ovaltine badge, a Royal Navy tiepin, East Surrey badge, a Welsh school commemorative badge for Jubilee 1785-1936, a bronze International Health Exhibition Medal in case of issue dated 1884, a bronze medal commemorating the end of the Great War in case of issue, an aluminium ARP Wardens plaque etc. This lot is accompanied by some research

A VERY UNUSUAL PAIR OF BELGIAN BREECH LOADING DOUBLE BARRELLED PERCUSSION CAP PISTOLS, 4 inch nickel plated barrels with broad engraved ribs, integral frames with foliage decoration, Liege proof marks, fluted buts with shaped butt caps, long plain steel hammer, head hammer 9.25 ins. *The breeches have a left side loading gate bar, which when open reveals steel ‘cartridges’ in each chamber fitted with percussion nipples.

A RARE 17TH-CENTURY PLANE TABLE COMPASS BY WALTER HAYES, LONDONwith 4¼in. printed dial signed and inscribed Walter Hayes in Moore Fields Londini 1664, with original blued-steel needle, contained in a fruitwood glazed case (glass cracked) — 5½in. (14cm.) square Walter Hayes worked between 1648 and 1687 and from 1653-1684 at the Cross Daggers, next door to the Pope`s Head Tavern, near Bethnam Gate, Moorfields, London. Ref Clifton G.: Directory of British Scientific Instrument Makers 1550-1851, Zwemmer 1995, Page 130, where a similar example is illustrated.
