Attributed to Matthew Ellis Nutter (1795 - 1892) A view looking towards the Carlisle Castle gate bridge, with a young woman in conversation with two guards atop the bridge whilst traversing steps to gather water from the stream, watercolour, in pen lined card mount and gilt frame under glass, 46 cm x 36 cm overall [Nutter was born in Carlisle and originally worked as a coach painter and decorator before becoming a full time artist. He was one of the founding members of the Carlisle School of Artists, secretary to the Carlisle Academy from 1823 and later became a drawing master at Green Row Academy.]
