Serial number '170'. This rare revolver was built in Rome, for the Papal Gendarmerie, by Mazzocchi, following the model of the Belgian patent 'Chamelot et Delvigne'. length 20.5 cm.

dating: 1880 - 1886 provenance: USA, Barrel with company address in two lines at the back, on the left side, 'NEW HOUSE 41'. Bore needs cleaning, with visible rifling. Five-shot cylinder. Spur trigger, the loading gate tends to open. Working mechanism, but with some uncertainty. Hard-rubber grip scales with the inscription 'COLT' and depicting a scene of a policeman fighting with a criminal. Serial number '25xxx' on the bottom of the grip. Manufactured between 1880 and 1886 in 4000 items. See 'Flayderman's Guide', 9th edition, page 108, 5B-177. length 16,5 cm.
dating: third quarter of the 19th Century provenance: USA, Round, rifled, 27", 44 cal barrel bearing company address," KING'S IMPROVEMENT "and patent. Rear sight and front sight. Brass frame, the left side richly engraved with floral motifs on a granulated background, the upper part slightly engraved, upper tang with single screw, external serial number "34xxx", working mechanism, smooth wooden fore-end, smooth wooden stock (signs of use and two cracks on the butt). Brass butt-plate with gate, two loops for the strap. length 116.5 cm.

With no caliber marking. Remains of ancient bluing. Working mechanism. A few small areas with pitting. Smooth, walnut butt and fore-end. Saddle ring. Butt plate pad with gate. Serial number '97xxx A'. length 98,5 cm.
dating: third quarter of the 19th Century provenance: St. Etienne, Cylindrical barrel provided with rib and with front sight, featuring the marking'GAULOIS' and another mark; frane if an almost-rectangular shape, with the writing 'N. ° 2' on the extractor gate, and the marks 'CAL. 8 m / m' and 'MANUFACTURE FRANCAISE SAINT-ETIENNE / ARMES ET CYCLES' on the upper part; the surface engraved with floral motifs, the left side provided with a secure lever; palm trigger made of checkered wood (very small missing parts). Keeping 90% of its original browning. In its leather case with the golden factory mark.The second lid with a tank for 10 cartridges. With original case, very rare in these conditions. length 13 cm.

Mechanism working only in double action, the stud of the cylinder does not come out. Frame with patents up to 1875 and the rampant horse. Keeping the 60% of its antique browning and case hardening. Well preserved, hard-rubber grips, with rampant horse of the company in relief. Coeval serial numbers '103xxx' on the frame, trigger guard and handle, the cylinder with the last three digits of the same serial number. Gate numbered '506'. length 17,5 cm.

Koldewey, Robert -- Self-portrait of the archaeologist Robert Johann Koldewey. 1906. Vintage large format, sepia-toned gelatin silver print. 38,5 x 53 cm. Date in the negative in lower left corner, flush-mounted to board; annotated in ink on mount verso.A self-trained archaeological historian of the classical period, Koldewey was signed on as a participant to the American excavation expedition under Joseph Thacher Clarke of Ancient Assus in Greece in 1883, where he learned excavation methods and how to recover ancient remains. The German Archaelogical Institute then employed him for various excavations in the Ottoman Empire. His most important work involved the excavations in Babylon from 1898-1917 where his most significant excavation was the Processional Way and the Ishtar Gate as well as the foundations of the Tower of Babylon. Along with Schliemann, Humann, Conze and Dörpfeld, Koldewey is among to the most important archaeologists of this era. – Edges slightly frayed, small retouched scratch, liquid surface spot in right area, otherwise a rich tonal print in very good condition.Lit.: Walter Andrae.
