Mei Lanfang, renowned for his mastery of Peking opera, was not only a virtuoso on the stage but also a consummate artist in the realm of painting and calligraphy. His profound expertise extended beyond the performing arts, delving into the rich tapestry of traditional Chinese artistry. One of the remarkable aspects of Mei Lanfang's artistic journey was his close friendships with esteemed masters in the world of painting and calligraphy. Names like Zhang Daqian, Qi Baishi, Xu Beihong, Huang Junbi, Jin Cheng, Zheng Wuchang, and Huang Binhong adorned his list of esteemed companions. These revered figures in the art world were not only his contemporaries but also kindred spirits who shared a passion for creative expression. In the vibrant artistic landscape of China during that era, the tradition of gifting artworks among artists was a heartfelt means of deepening relationships. This tradition fostered a sense of kinship that transcended artistic disciplines, binding artists together through shared creative endeavors.
