A Chinese export chinoiserie lacquer tea caddy - 19th century, of serpentine rectangular form, decorated with shaped landscape reserves and roundels, on a black and gilt ground, raised on carved Buddhistic lion mask feet, the interior painted with decorative grasses and foliate scroll borders, the pewter lid chased with a pair of warriors, 24.25 x 19.5 x 12.5 cm.* Condition: No splits or losses to the structure, and no losses to the lacquering. The exterior lacquer has matted over time and there is surface dirt throughout - the silvered landscape reserves have tarnished and become dark. Some wear to the gilding, particularly around the borders. The feet are in good condition with no losses. With key and lock is functional. Some denting to pewter lid to interior.

A Chinese Cloisonne Enamel Miniature Bottle-Shaped Vase in the Ming Manner, decorated in coloured enamels with stylised floral and scroll design on a turquoise ground, 2.5ins (6.4cm) high (Qianlong Period) Gilded rim and foot rim rubbed. One cell to upper rim missing dark blue enamel. Cell of half round shape. Two corresponding adjoining cell to base again missing dark blue enamel. Extensive pitting to the enamels all over. A Chinese Hardwood Three Piece Lounge Suite, the low backs and arms inset with fretted scroll panels, and on square legs, comprising - three seat settee, 72ins (183cm) wide x 29.5ins (75cm) high, and a pair of matching easy chairs, with loose cushions in floral and bird chintz Sofa - the upholstery of the cushion appears to be heavily stained in various places. However there are no obvious tears, rips or wear to the seat or cushions.  There are no foul orders emanating from it. The arms are slightly faded. To the whole there is some light scattered scratching and some heavier rubbing to the crest rail.  The item is structurally sound with little to no movement in the joints. There is general heavier wear to the feet and base commensurate with age. One armchair - heavily faded with some light scattered scratching to the whole. The upholstery of the cushions is quite stained and faded however there are no obvious tears or rips to the fabric and there are no foul odours emanating from it.  Structurally sound however there is some movement in the joint at the back and general heavier wear to the feet and base commensurate with age. Second armchair - light scattered scratching to the frame. The seat and cushion are slightly stained and discoloured. However there are no obvious tears or rips to the fabric. No foul odours emanating. The chair appears to be structurally sound with little to no movement in the joints and there are general signs of wear to the feet and base.  Overall this lot is in fairly good condition.

Its names, he 荷and lian 蓮, are also homophones to the words harmony, he 和, ‘binding in marriage’聯 and love戀, as well as the word 'continuous' or 'successive', making it a perfect symbol for a harmonious union with many children.Chrysanthemum, beautiful and colourful, represents autumn. As it blooms in autumn when all other flowers are fading away, it symbolises the ability to withstand adversity. It is tranquil and harmonious with others, but also dignified and indomitable.Hibiscus (mufurong 木芙蓉) is another flower of autumn. Two of the characters that make up its name soun similar to the words for 'wealth' (fu 富) and 'glory' (rong 荣). Together with the peony, a flower of wealth and honour, it represents a greeting: 'May you have high position and great wealth' (ronghua fugue 榮華富貴).Morning glory in Chinese culture tends to represent love and affection, and given as a symbol of longing, as well as symbolising marital bliss.The finger citron, in Chinese foshou 佛手, or Buddha’s hand, is a homophone and visual pun to the phrase, good fortune/wealth and longevity, fu shou 福壽.Condition Report: Light rubbing to enamels. A short restored hairline to one side (approx. 10mm), and a restored broken off section to another side. Some flaking to turquoise enamel to base and expected light surface wear. Some brown burnishing to interior.

Nakabayashi Chikutō was a talented painted, sponsored by a merchet for pursuing art education at a young age. His painting was especially influenced by ink drawings from the period of the Chinese Yuan Dynasty, and later became an active member in the literature circle that focused on the philosopher Rai San'yō and the nanga artist Uragami Shunkin. He composed books on his sketches and on his techniques, including Chikutō Garon and Chikutō Gakyō.Condition Report: Creasing to the painting, an tiny area of very faint foxing and possibly with three patches of water damage to the centre left, fraying to the back of the mount.
