A GOOD 19TH CENTURY CHINESE INLAID LACQUER COFFEE TABLE, the table profusely inlaid with carved & stained ivory or bone & mother of pearl to depict phoenix style peacocks amongst native flora and trees, the top protected with glass, sat on four carved wooden scroll legs, the apron with floral lacquer mons, 78.5cm square.
TWO LARGE 19TH CENTURY CHINESE FRAMED PAINTED SCROLL PICTURES, one depicting a lady in uniform with young attendants, probably celebrating tea ceremony, the other of a gentleman in uniform with a young attendant, both framed, the larger measuring: 156cm high x 94cm wide, the smaller: 156cm high x 86cm wide.
A Chinese porcelain Republic period bottle vase, Qianlong seal mark, decorated externally with a continuous band depicting an extensive mountainous and lakeside landscape with trees, boats, pagodas and figures, within two blue and white formal foliate scroll borders, the neck decorated with stiff leaf and yun wen decoration, unglazed foot rim, blue seal mark to underside, 33cm high CONDITION REPORT: Generally good condition. No obvious signs of chips, cracks or restoration. The foot rim has a small stained firing crack. Some light signs of pitting. Dirty and dusty interior. There is a small section of surface speckling which is rough to the touch (see images). Decoration appears in good condition. Please see additional images for clarification.
An 18th century Chinese lacquer cabinet on a later stand, fitted with twelve drawers and a small cupboard, enclosed by two doors, decorated with chinoiseries, figures, landscapes and exotic birds, on a stand with lion mask and scroll carved decoration and monopodiae legs 176 x 105 x 57cm (69 x 41 x 22in)
Two Chinese moon flasks, 19th century, one depicting exotic birds amongst peony and blossom and verso figures on foot and horseback against a yellow ground with lotus scroll and peach decoration, with Tongzhi red seal mark and applied collectors inventory No. 29, the other with a panel of a warring party and verso a peacock amongst peony and blossom all against a turquoise ground with lotus flower and peach decoration. Each height 25 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: On the yellow ground flask both Shi Shi handles have been broken off, restored and gilded. The gilding around the neck rim is rubbed and may have been overpainted at some point however not recently. The main body appears to be in good order and is free from any obvious faults. The blue ground moon flask appears to be in good order. There is a 2.5 cm firing crack on the interior of the neck but this is not visible from the exterior. The gilding around each panel is rubbed and partially erased. There are some very minor losses to some of the enamels but nothing that is instantly obvious. The Shi Shi both have the tip of their tails missing. There are no signs of any restorations to either.
A set of six Chinese porcelain tea cups and saucers, early 20th century, with panels of precious objects against a yellow ground decorated with lotus flower scroll stamped four character Qianlong mark. CONDITION REPORT: One cup has a very fine rim to foot rim hairline crack and a small flea bite chip to the rim. Another cup has a small chip to the exterior rim. One cup has a solder repair to the top and bottom of the handle, the repair is also visible on the interior of the cup. One cup has a small flea bite rim chip from which issues a 1.5 cm L shape hairline crack within the glaze. One saucer has a small patch of approximately 1.5 cm long of kiln dirt attached to the rim but this is a manufacturing flaw. All items have a poor Qianlong rubber stamp mark decoration and execution of the enamels is poor.
A close pair of Chinese cylindrical vases and domed covers, early 20th century, each decorated with the 100 boys in a dragon procession, each 23.5 cm high, two further Chinese cylindrical vases and covers, 20th century, one with Ruyi head shoulder decorated with a dragon amongst tight peony flower scroll, the other with a shoulder decorated with peony against a blue scroll ground. 23 cm and 21 cm respectively. CONDITION REPORT: The green ground dragon vase has a rim to almost foot rim hairline crack. The cover to the blue ground vase has a full-length hairline crack. The vase itself appears to be in good order with no obvious chips, cracks or signs of restoration. On the near pair ofvases the right-hand example has a restored cover which seems to be disguising a full-length hairline crack, the interior of the cover has been over-sprayed. The jar for this cover appears to be in good order with no obvious chips, cracks or signs of restoration. Its companion vase is in good order throughout with no signs of any chips, cracks or restorations.
A rare Chinese porcelain named armorial tankard, the armorial inscribed "W.M. Whealston" and dated 1764 within a moulded scroll border and with sanguine landscape vignettes all beneath a cell border. Height 10 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: There is a 2.5 cm hairline crack on the rim. The rococo moulding has been heightened with gilding although the vast majority of this has been erased. There are no further obvious chips, cracks or flaws other than those mentioned. Generally in good order. The gilding on the armorial is good.
Chinese two-seater wooden sofa with walnut inlay to seat, carved frieze and circular inset porcelain panel to the back, on scroll feet, 100cm wide, 87cm high and 50cm deep.CONDITION REPORT: There is some colour fading, water marks and spots. Plaque is in good condition, the plaque is 26.5cm diameter. Overall in good, used condition.
