˜A VICTORIAN ELECTROPLATE FOUR-PIECE TEA AND COFFEE SET, JAMES DIXON & SONS, SHEFFIELD, CIRCA 1855 octagonally faceted baluster, engraved with the initials PC surrounded by diaperwork panels in scroll and foliate cartouches above a band of fruit-laden trailing vines, on vine branch feet and further vines to the bases of the ribbed spouts, ivory insulators to the pots, the teapot with presentation inscription and finial cast as a seated Chinese man, the coffee pot with a cross-legged Ottoman figure finial, stamped trademarks, numbered ~1379~ and PGS for Plated German Silver, all in the original fitted oak case 25cm high The presentation inscription reads: This Tea & Coffee Service was Presented to Permanent Serjeant P. Cunningham by the Officers, Non Commissioned Officers and Privates of the B Troop of the Ist. West Yorkshire Yeomanry Cavalry, as a token of their Esteem on the occasion of his leaving that Troop to become the Regimental Serjeant Major, May, 1855.

Chinese Famille Rose Vase, baluster shaped with flared and scalloped rim, decorated with a band of iron red chrysanthemums and green foliage that repeats at the base; the neck with vignettes of birds and peonies over large circular vignettes of Birds of Paradise and butterflies amid flowers and bamboo, all on a light blue ground with enameled yellow scroll and pink floral decoration. Body with applied Chih Lung dragons at shoulder and two applied foo dog handles at neck. 14"H. Late 19th to early 20th century. Accompanied by a contemporary 6"H round hardwood stand. Provenance: the estate of Dr. Howard T. DeHaven, Columbia, TN. CONDITION: 2 1/2" area of professional restoration to rim, visible under UV light, otherwise very good condition.
Two (2) Qing Dynasty Rose Medallion chargers, each with central bird and peony medallion surrounded by four vignettes of alternating figures and birds with butterflies, on a floral decorated ground. One charger measures 16" diameter and has more green in the background decoration. The other measures 15" and has bird, scroll and lantern motifs flanking the sides of the vignettes. Both Chinese, 19th century. Note: a receipt for the 1995 purchase of these chargers for $3,600 from Ford A. Kalil Antiques Inc. of Bethesda, MD accompanies this lot. CONDITION: 15" charger: some wear and losses to enamels (mostly white spots) and some possible yellow overpaint in a few small areas. 16" charger: some light wear to gilt and light exfoliation to a few small spots of white enameling; overall good condition. No chips or hairlines noted on either piece.
Grouping of ten (10) Chinese carved jade plaques. 1st-2nd items: Two (2) celadon discs, one (1) decorated on both sides with connecting c-scroll design framed by a meandering pattern, and one(1) featuring a phoenix to one side with a connecting c-scroll design framed with cross hatched outer band en verso. 3rd-11th items: Eight (8) celadon plaques, one (1) small rectangular plaque showing a character framed by swirl or water pattern, and the remaining with various carved decoration including humans, animals, and floral. All items ranging in size from 1 7/8" L x 1" W x 1/8" D to 3 7/8" L x 2 3/4" W x 1/4" D. CONDITION: Overall good condition.
Asian carved shelf and three (3) hardwood plaques, 4 items total. 1st item: Chinese or Japanese carved ebonized hardwood shelf with mirror and two watercolor paintings. Elaborately carved pierced crest emulating intertwined flowering prunus vines extending from a central branch, over a shallow, molded shelf with curved front ends. Vertical panel below, with relief carved prunus blossoms surrounding a central rectangular mirror and two (2) paintings (watercolor on laid paper), one (1) depicting scholars at work at a table and one (1) depicting young men practicing archery. Mortise and tenon construction. 15 1/2" H x 26 1/2" W x 3 1/2"D. Late 19th century or earlier. 2nd-4th items: Three (3) carved Chinese or Japanese hardwood panels or plaques with low relief decoration including peony and fruit, immortal with scroll, and warrior with spear, each enclosed in matching bamboo style ebonized frames. Panels late 19th to early 20th century, frames possibly later. Ranging in size from 5 1/2" H x 31" W x 1" D to 12 1/2" H x 8 1/4" W x 1" D. Provenance: Nashville, Tennessee collection. Consignor's mother acquired during travels in Asia. CONDITION: 1st item: Mirror is a fairly recent replacement. Shrinkage cracks around openings for watercolors; one watercolor (right hand side) is loose in frame. That watercolor has been removed from frame and is not glued down. Some minor warping to shelf. 2nd-4th items: Plaques depicting men have some small chips/losses to clouds and tips of warrior's helmet, up to 3/4" L.

A LARGE CHINESE COPPER-RED 'FIVE DRAGON' VASE 18TH CENTURY The pear-shaped body with a tall tapering neck, decorated with scaly five-clawed dragons amidst clouds and flames, their eyes picked out in underglaze blue, all above breaking waves, the short foot painted with a continuous leaf scroll, with gilt-metal mounts to the neck and foot, the neck reduced and the base lacking, 55cm overall. A LARGE CHINESE BLUE AND WHITE 'LANDSCAPE' VASE WANLI 1573-1620 The ovoid body painted with a continuous scene of houses and figures dispersed throughout a rocky mountainous landscape, the shoulder decorated with four cartouches containing floral sprays, the panels reserved on diaper grounds divided by ruyi motifs, with a band of lappets encircling the foot and a continuous scroll to the short waisted neck, 36.8cm. A Chinese watercolour scroll painting, probably Qing, 19th century, on a later silk scroll, depicting scholarly retreats in a majestic mountain landscape, signed and dedicated and with two red artist's seals, 52½ x 13in. (133.3 x 33cm.). * Condition: Appears to be an older painting which has had some restoration and has been remounted onto a later silk backing in the mid-20th century. Sharp edged crease to centre right of sheet. Large 2.5 x 1in patch of restoration to paper with repair patches to margin at right of signature, two other much smaller patches below and another small patch below lower seal mark. Two small patches of restoration to centre of painting (one to a small worn hole, one to an insect mark) - two other insect marks to surface of paper to left and below these patches. Two other larger restored patches to centre in lower half of painting. A little light foxing.
An antique Chinese watercolour scroll painting, probably 19th century, depicting a prunus tree in blossom, issuing from a rocky cliff, inscribed with script and signed with three red seals, 66¼ x 18¼in. (168.25 x 46.25cm.). * Condition: Some creasing to paper throughout from rolling and scattered fox marks to upper half of paper, which has some toning throughout. Three old splits/tears to paper at top right corner, some water marks around margins at top and a few small holes to paper at top margin. One pinhole to centre towards top and small repaired hole just above top branch, which appears to have been done before the painting was laid down onto the silk scroll. The edges of the silk backing have overall creasing and chipping to the upper half of the scroll.
A Chinese porcelain large tankard, Qianlong period (1736-1795), slightly flared cylindrical form with flared foot and C-scroll handle, painted with peonies, other flowers, fruit and large iron red leaves, between diaper, blue dotted and floral pendant borders, 5 5/8in. (14.25cm.) high, stapled repair to handle, large chip to foot. * Condition: Handle has been off and has old stapled repair and large glaze chips to left hand edge. Large chip beneath foot. Gilt wear below rim.
A Chinese Yuan or early Ming style porcelain Meiping vase, painted in blue against a pale celadon glazed ground, with two dragons chasing a flaming pearl amidst flames, above a tumultuous sea, the shoulder with repeating scroll border and spiked foliate fringe collar, below a short neck with slightly everted rim, 13½in. (34.25cm.) high, two chips to base. * Condition: Two chips to edge of base (one 10 x 13mm., the other 2 x 2mm.). Some scratching to glaze visible, notably to centre, widest area of body but also some scratches to glaze elsewhere. Glaze flaw to shoulder, just below scroll band - the glaze is thickly pooled here with a fine, uneven line which is unglazed beneath. Dark spotting to glaze throughout and one burst bubble to glaze to very back of one dragon. No other damage or faults.

(150 x 80.5cm.). * Condition: Some light dirt marks to edges from handling and larger patch of dirty marks to surface of paper to left of signature & inscription. Small crease top left. Otherwise good.

(43.1cm.) high. * Condition: Some wear to patination on raised areas of face, hood and robes. Scratch to patination to upper back. No other faults.
