A pair of Chinese Famille Rose plates, mid 18th century, a seated figure and attendant, decorated in polychrome enamels within a raised hut beneath a willow tree, watching over a white enamel crane gazing skyward towards a gilt crane within a rock work and peony landscape, within a Lambrequin frame before an under glazed blue peony and scroll rim, 22.5 cm. CONDITION REPORT: One plate has three small fritting chips to the rim, the other plate has two fritting chips to the rim. Each plate rings out when tapped. There are no signs of restoration, cracks or any further chips other than those mentioned. The colours are generally good, although one crane is rubbed and discoloured.
Two prints, one a Chinese scene the other Venice. Each 14 cm x 18.5 cm, in Edwardian gilt frames. CONDITION REPORT: The picture frame housing the scene of Venice has numerous small age splits throughout the moulded plasterwork frame. The left tip and centre tip of the central scroll have been restored. A small section of the shell scroll to the lower left hand corner has been restored. Most likely this picture frame has been re-gilded early on in its life. The matching picture frame housing the scene of the China is slightly duller in colour throughout than its partner frame but has less stress fractures to the moulded plasterwork. There is a small hole to the bottom right hand corner capital C scroll. Other than those faults mentioned all appears to be intact.
A pair of Chinese carved wood mounts, 20th century, each carved as a figure holding a large scroll, his left leg raised in the air, standing on gilt clouds, height 27.5 cm, a carved wood figure of Guan Yin and Bodhidahma, a pair of carved wood gilt and red lacquered temple lions, and a single carved wood gilded temple lion, the figures height 20 cm and 17.5 cm respectively, the lions height 12 cm, width 11.5 cm. (7) CONDITION REPORT: The gilt hood mounts are generally in good order with only minor damage such as small chips to corners missing. You may see from the images that on the left hand side figure the bottom left edge of the scroll is slightly chipped. The gilding is rubbed on both to reveal a red lacquer ground. The left hand figure also has a small hole just between the forehead and the headdress. The tip of his right hand robe has a small splice missing. The right hand mount has a small chip to the left of its headdress. Again the gilding is rubbed in various places to reveal a red lacquer ground. The bottom right hand corner has a small piece missing, again these should be visible from the web images. Each has small knocks and scratches to its reverse. They are both pretty much intact. The left hand side Shi-Shi lion has the tip of its tail missing, the tip of its left ear missing and the occasional woodworm hole which appears to be inactive. There is also a split to its rear right leg which continues down to the base. The right hand Shi-Shi lion has the extreme tip of its left ear missing. Both have gilded bodies which have been rubbed in various places to reveal a red lacquer ground. The rear of the right hand lion shows a 5 cm split. The carved wood deity has 50% of his left foot missing but is otherwise intact and a nice looking figure. The carved wood figure of Guan Yin appears to be in good order throughout. The single Shi-Shi lion has a small splice to the rear tip of its tail. The gilding is rubbed in small areas to reveal a red lacquered ground. Other than that there are no major faults to report.
A Chinese late 19thC hardwood calling card case, carved in bas relief with cartouches of figures in garden settings, 10.5cm x 7cm, a turned wooden box surmounted to the lid with an ivory okimono knop, figure with a scroll, 15cm high, and a wooden ball carved all over with animals, birds, and serpents, 6.5cm diameter, (3).
A Chinese rosewood opium table with bamboo carved frieze on scroll end supports, together with two modern occasional tables (damaged) CONDITION REPORTS The Chinese rosewood opium table has numerous surface scratches, numerous areas of staining, discolouration, fading, water marks, chips, dents, scratches, loss to the varnish. There are some small chips to the carved bamboo frieze and ther joints where the legs are atttached are starting to come loose and have started to pull apart slightly. The circular occasional table has a large split running through the top of the table which looks like an old repair and also to the underside of the table. Just above the plinth there is another split which has seen an old repair. Numerous surface scratches, dents, pitting, chips. The square occasional table has numerous surface scratches, the varnish is starting to raise in some areas. Chips, scrartches, flecks of white paint, accretions to the top and to the legs and the side. One of the legs has totaly come off and there is as split down the side of the table where it has come off with another piece of wood - see images for details. General wear and tear on all items
A Chinese watercolour scroll with script to top left hand corner CONDITION REPORTS There is a small pink "smudge" to the top of the image and small marks and creases all over including to the boarder as well as discoloration to the edge. The silk back/cover is discolouered and stained. General wear and tear condusive to age and use. See imaged for more details/examples. 212cm x 92cm approx.
