The paper watermarked "Original Lourvre Mill." In an ornate giltwood and plaster frame.Provenance: From the collection of Malcolm E. Lein, former director of the Minnesota Museum of American Art.Malcolm Emil Lein (1913-2003) was the director of the Minnesota Museum of American Art during its early and formative years. During his 30-year tenure, he fought to procure the museum funding, grow its permanent collection, and establish it as a St. Paul's premiere gallery. Along with his wife Miriam, who worked at the Walker Art Center, he was a fixture in the Twin Cities artistic community throughout his life.Sight; height: 6 1/4 x width: 4 in. Framed; height: 13 x width: 11 in.br/>Condition:No tears, losses, or restorations. The sheet is toned. There is a network of foxing/stains along the upper half, visible in the lot listing. Along the verso there are four pieces of tape along each edge. The work is affixed along the upper edge with a piece of clear tape. Some wear to the gilt plaster and wood frame. Some white tape, pictured in the listing, along the verso of the frame has been removed to allow for inspection of the work.

Verso punktuell auf Passepartoutrückseite montiert und unter Glas gerahmt. - In den Rändern leicht unfrisch sowie mit punktuellem Papierverlust, unten rechts leichte Knickspuren, vereinzelte winzige Braunflecken, insgesamt gut. Pencil on thin sketch paper. Signed and dated "20.1.22". - Spot-mounted to mat and framed under glass. Slightly unfresh in marhins as well as with isolated loss of paper, slight crease marks on lower right, isolated tiny brown-stains, all in all good. - Expressiv depiction by Dachau artist Paula Wimmer who was part of the so-called "Malweiber".

B. Bury") and E A Walton’s Memorial Exhibition, Edinburgh and Glasgow 1924.Literature: Edward Arthur Walton by Fiona MacSporran Page 91 Plate 70.Note: Jane Bury was married to J. B. Bury Esq., Regius Professor of Modern History, Cambridge. From 1902 they took a holiday cottage at 9 Park Lane, Southwold, where they made friends with the artist. In addition to painting her portrait, he also made an oil sketch of their cottage, now in the Southwold Museum. This portrait was also exhibited at the Walton Memorial Exhibition at the Royal Academy (London) in 1924. The painting has strong influences of Whistler, particularly in the panache of the dress.

Heath Robinson, 1930-31' with sketch image of gentleman with umbrella in the rain. 18cm x 13cm (light fold, gd) (1). Lots 1088 to 1137 have been consigned by a relative of a private collector who is now deceased. They form the first part of a vast collection of signatures amassed over 50+ years of collecting which we will be selling in this and future auctions. Many signatures were gained in person from boyhood days at sports venues, theatres & other locations and continued through to later years with auction purchases and exchanges of correspondence. A FORMATION OF ROCKS BY YEQING 冶青《巨石》China, first half of the 20th century. Ink on paper. The fan-shaped painting depicts a formation of rocks with sparsely sprouting grass. Calligraphy and two seal marks on the top right and left side.Inscriptions: The two texts describe the sketch of rocks, signed 'Yeqing' and 'Daye', and two seals 'Daye' and 'Yeqing.'Provenance: From the collection of Professor Jan Wirgin (1932-2020). Jan Wirgin studied Classic Chinese and History of Art at Stockholm University. Later, he joined the Museum of Far Eastern Antiquities in Stockholm, first as a curator and then between 1981-1998 as the director of the museum. Further, he published numerous articles during his work as the editor of the Bulletin of the Museum of Far Eastern Antiquities. One of his most famous works is the book "Chinese Art history" (1972), which is still one of the most read books for students of Chinese art history in Sweden. Condition: Good condition.
