N. C. Mellen, Archt. (American, early 20th century) 'Residence for Chas. Hathaway Esq., East Orange, N.J.' watercolour, signed and inscribed 11 x 17¾in. (28 x 45cm.) * This watercolour design sketch depicts Kenbrook Hall, the mansion designed by Mellen and built in 1901 for Charles Hathaway, the Wall Street banker and father of Robert Hathaway, later husband of Sibyl Hathaway, the Dame of Sark. It later became part of Upsala College and was used as their administration building into the school closed in 1998. It is now believed to have been demolished due to redevelopment of the school site.

§ Ralston R B Gudgeon, RSW (British, 1910-1984) Mallard taking flight signed lower right "R Gudgeon" and with lion's head sketch watercolour, in a painted frame 42 x 54cm (16 x 21in) Ralston Gudgeon was born in Ayr, Scotland. He studied at Glasgow School of Art from 1928-1933 and won the Torrance Memorial Award of the Glasgow Institute in 1933. There is a little dirt to each of the corners, but this may be on the glass. Colours are good. Inscribed to the reverse "purchased Sept. 1938" and "To Jackie from Willy, May 17th 1949"
