A beautiful Two Ronnies ' Fork Handles ' limited edition signed print. Produced by The Original Memorabilia Company, the print is hand signed by Ronnie Barker and Ronnie Corbett to the upper portion in black marker. This edition being No. 1 out of 950. No. 1 was only ever made available when the infamous ' Fork Handles ' Ronnie Barker handwritten script (see lot 300 in this auction) went up for sale. Prior to this it was kept by The Original Memorabilia Company in their offices. The print depicts the version of the ' Fork Handles ' sketch as performed at The London Palladium, showing both Ronnies in character. Beneath the large colour lithograph image is the script for the sketch - this version having the reworked ending that Ronnie B wrote for the stage show. In many interviews before his death, Barker explained that he was never happy with the original 'Billhooks' ending to the TV version, so rewrote the ending to incorporate a buxom shop assistant who comes in at the end and asks 'Right Sir, what sort of knockers are you looking for?' The hand signed autographed print comes with the original Certificate of Authenticity - which shows Barker & Corbett signing. Professionally framed and glazed (perspex) to a total size of; 72cm x 56cm.

An iconic piece of British comedy history; Ronnie Barker's original hand written script for the iconic ' Fork Handles ' or ' Annie Finkhouse ' Two Ronnies sketch. Written over four lined sheets, in red ink by Barker - he has added his pseudonym ' G. Wiley ' (Gerald Wiley) as the author of the sketch. Neatly stapled to the top right corner. At certain moments in the script, Ronnie Barker has added notes to aid production such as 'Please Discuss,' and certain parts of the television recording do not follow the script exactly (particularly around the discussion of 'Letter O's') - exactly as you would expect from a draft script. Famously discovered on an episode of Antiques Roadshow in 2006 by memorabilia expert Mark Allum, the script then made its way to Ronnie Corbett who authenticated the handwriting as that of Barkers. The sketch is frequently found on ‘best ever’ lists, was crowned funniest comedy moment of the 1970's on UKTV and finished fifth in Channel 4’s ' Fifty Greatest Comedy Sketches ' countdown in 2005. First aired in September 1976, the sketch is famous for its use of wordplay - the title itself ' Annie Finkhouse ' being a play on ' Anything Else?'. Ronnie Corbett once explained how the sketch was based on a real life situation between a customer and a hardware shop owner, who then wrote to Barker to tell of their comical story, and from 'that germ of an idea' Barker wrote the sketch. This handwritten script features the original ending to the sketch - as was recorded during the show - but Barker famously disliked the ending and reworked it for their live Stage Show where, instead of 'Mr Jones' entering and revealing a sign for 'Billhooks', a rather buxom woman enters and asks the customer 'What sort of knockers are you looking for?' Ronnie Barker famously used several pseudonyms during his writing for The Two Ronnies, with Gerald Wiley being his most famous. It was important to Barker for sketches to be judged on their merit, rather than who had written them, as he wanted to keep the quality of The Two Ronnies high. Of the Gerald Wiley sketches, ' Annie Finkhouse ' is the most famous. Presumably this is Ronnie's handwritten final draft that would've been submitted to his agent - who in turn would've had it typed, and submitted to the producers of The Two Ronnies (to avoid suspicion that Wiley was Barker), and likely handed the original back to Barker - who, in later years, often gave scripts and memorabilia away to fans for Charity auctions or similar. Accompanying the script is a certificate of authenticity from The Original Memorabilia Company, and a copy of a 2007 Antiques Roadshow ' Retrospective ' episode on DVD which features the scripts discovery, and Ronnie Corbett handling and talking about the item. The sketch, as penned by Barker, can be viewed here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=gi_6SaqVQSw

The troopers therefore brought musquets, and after firing a great many shots from the doors, windows &c rushed in, with swords and bayonets. Some of the helpless creatures in their agony fell down at the feet of their murderers, and begged them, in the most pitiful manner, to spare their lives, but to no purpose... in the midst of the most dreadful shrieks and crys of the victims. There were between 140 & 150 souls, including children... next morning it was found, on opening the doors, that some 10 or 15 females with a few of the children had managed to escape... by... hiding under the murdered bodies... a fresh order was therefore sent to murder these also; but the survivors... rushed out into the Compound, and seeing a well there, threw themselves into it... ."William Jonah Shepherd (1825-91), served in the army commissariat at the outbreak of the Indian Mutiny, and was one of the very few survivors of the siege of Cawnpore. As he was of mixed race, he volunteered to act as a spy and to open negotiations with Nana Sahib, the commander of the rebel forces at Cawnpore. Disguised as a native cook Shepherd was captured soon after leaving the entrenchment. He was tried and imprisoned for a term of three years with hard labour and shackled in irons. During this time he lost his entire family, "consisting of wife and a daughter [my infant daughter having died from a musquet shot in the head...] two nieces... a sister and her infant son, a brother... and two old ladies". He "was released by the European Troops on the morning of the 17th [July 1857]."Nana Sahib (1824-59), born as Dhondu Pant; Indian Peshwa of Maratha empire; led the rebellion in Cawnpore (Kanpur) during the 1857 uprising.

Munnings (Sir Alfred) Pictures of Horses and English Life, second edition, inscribed to Letitia Shoppee with fine pen an ink self-portrait of the artist painting a horse race signed at the foot by the artist to half-title, A.N.s., 32-line autograph poem from the artist and an inscribed copy of the artist's pamphlet Larkbarrow Farm loosely inserted, plates, occasional light spotting, original cloth, 4to, 1939.⁂ A superb presentation copy with a fine sketch by Munnings. Letitia Shoppee appears to have been an amateur artist with an interest in horse paintings, likely how she came to know Munnings. They seem to have struck up a lively and jocular correspondence based upon a love of nature and poetry. The self-portrait bears a close resemblance to those by the artist previously sold at auction (for example Bonhams Knightsbridge, 18th November, 2014, lot 18).

Jack Butler Yeats RHA (1871-1957)The Belle of Chinatown (1943)Oil on canvas, 35.5 x 46cm (14 x 18)SignedProvenance: Purchased at the 1943 exhibition by well-known collector Jack Toohey. Sold in these rooms 11th December 1990 Lot 45, thence by descent.Exhibited: 'Later Paintings' Jack B Yeats Exhibition, Victor Waddington Gallery, Dublin Nov 1943, Cat. No. 12;'National Loan Exhibition' Jack B Yeats Exhibition June/July 1945, Cat. No. 126;'From Yeats to Ballagh' Arts Council Exhibition, Lunds Konsthall, Sweden, April-May 1972, Cat. No. 52Literature: 'Jack B Yeats: A Catalogue Raisonné of the Oil Paintings' Hilary Pyle, Vol 11, Cat. No. 582 p535The genesis of this intriguing work is found in sketches of 1904 and 1905. In 1904 Yeats travelled to New York where an exhibition of his work had been organised by John Quinn. Whilst there he was intrigued by the sights of the city, especially its cosmopolitan mix of races and its streetscapes of signs and advertisements. He visited and sketched Chinatown several times. The young girl with the large flowery hat, the Belle of Chinatown, is found in the pages of one of these New York sketchbooks (83, X180, Yeats Archive, National Gallery of Ireland). He drew a second sketch of the figure a year later when he was staying at Freshford with J. M. Synge. This is inscribed 'Chinatown, New York'. Yeats has elaborated on these earlier drawings a great deal in this painting created forty years later. The child stands in the daylight in front of a darkened side-street. Next to her in the full glare of the light is a stall on which are displayed an array of hats at 5 c each. An old man, the vendor, is seated behind it. The contrast between youth and age is sharply observed with the man's gaze directed at the bizarre sight of a tiny girl wearing the enormous hat. The dramatic changes in light caused partly by the scale of the buildings also fascinated Yeats. On the left hand side numerous marks of yellow and red indicate the colourful signs and banners of Chinatown. The richly textured use of paint conveys the steep perspective of the streetscape while imparting a strange vignette of the city, reconstructed and enriched by Yeats's combination of memory and imagination. A related painting is The Public Letter Writer, 1953, (Private Collection) which is also based on his memories of New York, highlighting again cosmopolitan life. Dr. Roisin Kennedyi. Hilary Pyle, Jack B. Yeats. A catalogue raisonné of the oil paintings, 1992, II, p.535.
