Original vintage lithograph printed travel brochure for the Jungfrau Railway in Switzerland. This four-fold and double-sided brochure contains informative text in English, German and French and features beautiful illustration by a pioneering Swiss graphic artist Emil Cardinaux (1877-1936) depicting different views of the mountains, with the back side deicated entirely to a color lithograph view of hikers overlooking Aletsch Glacier (the largest glacier in the Alps) from 11480 feet on Jungfraujoch, with other peaks identified in the background. The other side has two single-panel mountain views (comprising the front and rear panels of the folded brochure) and a sketch map showing the route of the Jungfrau Railway. The Jungfrau Railway is a 1,000 mm metre gauge rack railway which runs 9 kilometres (5.6 mi) from Kleine Scheidegg to the highest railway station in Europe at Jungfraujoch (3,454 m (11,332 ft)), between the Bernese Highlands and the Valais in Switzerland. The railway runs almost entirely within the Jungfrau Tunnel, built into the Eiger and Mönch mountains and containing two stations in the middle of the tunnel, where passengers can disembark to observe the neighbouring mountains through windows built into the mountainside. Emil Cardinaux (1877 - 1936 ) was a Swiss painter and poster artist . Good condition, faint staining and foxing in margins. Stylised artwork by Scottish artist Alexander ('Alick') Penrose Forbes Ritchie (1868-1938), showing a view of Tunbridge Wells with the church's tower and the domes of the Opera House emerging from behind the green trees and bubbles depicted in the foreground. Printed in Great Britain by Jarrold & Sons Ltd. Alick Ritchie was born in Dundee, Scotland. He studied at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Antwerp before settling in London as a commercial artist. He produced many cartoons for Vanity Fair, the Sketch, the Bystander and many other magazines and journals. Ritchie's cartoons and caricatures included portraits of celebrities in a style satirising the Cubist and Futurist schools of art that were predominant at the time. In 1912, he published a book called Y? or Zoo-all-awry, consisting of drawings and rhymes of composite animals, such as the Octopussy Cat and the Porcupython. Ritchie became well known for his theatrical posters, and between the wars he also produced posters for the London Underground.
