Lot 395

Original vintage Soviet propaganda poster celebrating April 12 - Cosmonautics Day, featuring a stylised portrait in white and blue of Konstantin Eduardovich Tsiolkovsky with handwritten formulae and a sketch of a rocket with trajectories, captioned in blue, red, and white stylised lettering: Earth under the protection of reason! Cosmonautics Day has been celebrated annually in the Soviet Union and Russia since 1962 and internationally since 2011 as the International Day of Human Space Flight. Konstantin Eduardovich Tsiolkovsky (17 September [O.S. 5 September] 1857 – 19 September 1935), was a Russian and Soviet rocket scientist who pioneered astronautic theory. Along with the Frenchman Robert Esnault-Pelterie, the Transylvanian German Hermann Oberth and the American Robert H. Goddard, he is one of the founding fathers of modern rocketry and astronautics. His works later inspired leading Soviet rocket-engineers Sergei Korolev and Valentin Glushko who contributed to the success of the Soviet space program. Seaside Memories - Watercolours. Coastal towns and spaces have a special place in my memories. People behave and celebrate their moments by the sea in ways that bring joy to the heart. I have set out to capture a sense of the freedom enjoyed - a oneness with nature that survives through less welcome times. Painting this watercolour sketch has been fun. Does it lift your spirits?

Lot 14

Ending - Gouache, Ink on card. I live very close to the sea and close to the beautiful Kessingland Beach. I sometimes wish to create interesting, peaceful images to express the feelings of serenity and solace that I find when I am by the water. For this postcard I used a sketch that encapsulated the escape of Lockdown routine. People making contact, breathing the fresh air by the water, listening to the rustling North wind and connecting to nature.

Lot 6

Braving the Elements - Pastels. This small pastel sketch is one of many that I produce prior to starting a larger pastel painting. It is a study of figures "braving the elements" that I did whilst working on location in the centre of Funchal, in Madiera. I used Unision and Daler-Rowney pastels on Sennelier 'La Carte' pastel card.

Lot 62

Hanging On - Oil. Clinging on for existence these frail trees suffer the Atlantic elements and are battered constantly by extreme gales. Bent over, twisted and gnarled, these leafed branches hold on for dear life, which are irresistible to view, sketch and paint within the wilds of Cornwall's rugged coast. With flashing colours of purple and red against the tall, lush, green waving grasses, that's called "Hanging On”.
