SIR DAVID WILKIE RA RSA (1785-1841) Study for "The Duke of Wellington as Constable of the Tower" pen and ink 13cm x 9.5cm Note: The finished painting for which this is the sketch was completed in 1833 and exhibited at the Royal Acadeny in 1834. Numerous studies and sketches exist for the work in pen and ink and oil. The presence of two grooms to the left relates this study to the final oil sketch which is very similar in composition. Only one groom was retained in the final work. Provenance: The Fine Art Society April 1997 label verso. Private Scottish Collection. Copy of the purchase receipt accompanies this lot.
