A FOLLOWER OF JOHN CONSTABLE "View on the River Stour Suffolk 1821", a river landscape with figures in foreground, oil on panel, unsigned, bears label verso inscribed "This sketch is by John Constable RA View on the River Stour Suffolk 1821 like most of the said.... works at an early period of painting is rather highly finished but has still the masterly effort which is found on most of his works who executed in light and shade and cloudy effect softness in colour and transparency as is found in this sketch. Sketch was supposed to be for the jumping horse. Yours sincerely Charles Leslie 1857 - 107H Collection", 29.75 cm x 43 cm. CONDITION REPORTS Oil is very cracked throughout, three horizontal splits running from the right corner each approx. 8 cm long (although they are to the surface of the oil), there is a deeper split which has been touched up in red on the right corner approx. 1.5 x 0.3 cm, painting is quite dirty, paint thinning in areas, corners have knocks, bumps and nibbles out at edges, back has splits and knocks to edges throughout , has clearly been uncared for over the years and out of a frame for some time, has old ink written label attached verso (see photo) and some deep scratches throughout. Under UV light the right-hand side of the painting by the tree appears to have had some extensive restoration, but otherwise does not show any further signs of restoration. No particular Provenance known, though from a local private source. Appears to have been relatively recently varnished.

§ Ron Van Gennip (Australian, 20th Century) The Big Splash signed lower right ""Van Gennip"" oil on board 37 x 47cm (14 x 18in) Provenance: Wylde`s Art Gallery, 95 Chrysostom Street, Trigg, Western Australia. Ron Van Gennip was born in Sydney, Australia, to artistic parents who encouraged him to paint and sketch whilst the family were living in New South Wales. At the age of 18 Gennip was awarded a 3 year scholarship to Sydney Technical College which led to him working with a prominent commercial art firm for 12 years. Whilst working at the firm Gennip also studied at the Drummayne Art Society, then led by the notable Australian artist Joshua Smith. Eventually Gennip gave up commercial pursuits in favour of focusing on fine art. Gennip has exhibited his impressionistic paintings in Australia, Hong Kong, Japan and London and also collaborated with the esteemed Australian artist Robert Hagan. Condition is fine.

Ernest Albert ANA, American 1857-1946- Boats in a harbour with mill; oil on board, signed, 24.5x19.8cm Provenance: with Fenwick's, 263 Sierra, Reno, Nevada, according to stamp on the reverse Note: Ernest Albert was born in Brooklyn, NY. Albert began his career as a scenic painter and theater designer for the Brooklyn Theater. Founder of the American Society of Scenic Painters and was a member of many art associations including the New Canaan Society of Artists, the Chicago Society of Artists and the Grand Central Gallery. His work was shown in selected exhibitions at Vose Galleries in Boston and Rockefeller Centre in NYC. During his lifetime, Albert exhibited at the Brooklyn Art Association, the St. Louis Sketch Club, the New Canaan Society of Artists, the Highland Park Art Museum, and the Grand Central Art Gallery. CONDITION REPORT: mounted in a glazed gilt moulding frame, circa mid-20th century paint surface suffers from pronounced craquelure and cracking this is particularly apparent in the upper half of the composition there is a very severe horizontal crack in the centre of the buildings in the foreground small amount of associated flaking and loss upper centre left otherwise in fair to good condition
