James Lawrence Isherwood FRSA (1917-1989) Lowry at 87 signed lower right pencil and biro sketch 14 by 13.5 cm Notes: A letter from the Mill House Gallery on the reverse states; 'This pencil sketch of LS Lowry by Lawrence Isherwood is thought to have been taken from the awards ceremony at Salford University when he was 87. Here Lowry received his honorary degree of Doctor of Letters'. The letter goes on to state that this work has ' previously been part of the private estate of Molly Isherwood, the artist's sister in law.' Please note this lot is subject to Artist's Resale Rights.

N. C. Mellen, Archt. (American, early 20th century) 'Residence for Chas. Hathaway Esq., East Orange, N.J.' watercolour, signed and inscribed 11 x 17¾in. (28 x 45cm.) * This watercolour design sketch depicts Kenbrook Hall, the mansion designed by Mellen and built in 1901 for Charles Hathaway, the Wall Street banker and father of Robert Hathaway, later husband of Sibyl Hathaway, the Dame of Sark. It later became part of Upsala College and was used as their administration building into the school closed in 1998 It is now believed to have been demolished due to redevelopment of the school site.
Pilkington Glass interest - Sigmund Pollitzer (1913-1982) 'Adonis' watercolour, signed and dated 1934 in pencil, inscribed, unframed 5 x 7in. (12.7 x 17.8cm.); together with four other watercolours, a pencil drawing, a signed etching and a woodcut, all of similar size, contained in the covers of a small sketch book with gilt initials 'E.J.'. -8 * To be sold on behalf of Willowbrook Hospice, Prescot. Donated as part of a sketchbook to the hospice by a resident, Miss Ellaline Jennings, whose father, Victor Jennings, ran the 'Brilliant Glass and Mirror' department at Pilkingtons in St Helens, Lancashire. The book included sketches by a number of Pilkingtons glass artists, including the chief designer, Sigmund Pollitzer, as well as A. C. Head, John Clitheroe, H. Burrows, J. W. Burnett and Walter Pierce. Two other sketches by Reginald Hector Whistler from the book are included in this sale as lot no. 159

Rosemary Tonks was the author of two poetry collections and six novels who famously disappeared from public view in the 1970's following personal tragedies, including the accidental death of her mother. She lived under her married name as Mrs Lightbrand in Bournemouth from 1979 when she moved in to her aunt Dorothy's flat until her death. Of the 40 lots in the collection twelve or more relate to Charles and Alma Gogin some with inscriptions to Gladys. DorothyÉs husband was the painter Myles Tonks (1890-1960)
