Charles Frederick Goldie ( 1870-1947) New Zealand Watercolour sketch Portrait of Maori Chieftain Wiremu Patara Te Tuhi, Of Ngati Mahuta, ? A Hot Day ? Patara (77) is dressed in European clothing , with traditional Ta Moko to face, wearing a pendant green stone ( Kahurangi) in one ear and is caught sleeping Signed upper right and partially dated 13 3/4 x 10 1/2 in ( 34.9 x 26.7 cm) aperture This was given by the artist to a close personal friend and hence by descent etc. It is known that the final oil is in the Christchurch Art Gallery , New Zealand presented by the Canterbury Society of Arts. The sitter ?Patara, The Scribe? as written about in the Christchurch STAR, issue 7331, 18 February 1902, page 4, titled ??Cannibal and Editor. The Life-Story of a Notable Maori Chief, The Raising of the King?.? N.B. Te Tuhi was born in Waikato. He belonged to Ngati Mahuta. His father was Paratene Te Maioha, a cousin of Potatau Te Wherowhero, the first Maori King. Te Tuhi was a second cousin of Tawhiao, Te Wherowhero's successor, and served him as editor, warrior, secretary and adviser The Ng?ti Mahuta chief P?tara Te Tuhi (c. 1824?1910) was a key leader in the K?ngitanga, the M?ori King movement which aimed to unify M?ori under a single sovereign. He was a newspaper publisher and secretary to his cousin King T?whiao, travelling with him to England in 1884 to seek recognition from Queen Victoria of the 1840 Treaty of Waitangi signed on her behalf. P?tara Te Tuhi first met Charles Goldie in 1901 and became a favourite, regular model. He also became increasingly well- known throughout New Zealand through the widespread reproduction of his painted and photographic portraits. Goldie attended P?tara Te Tuhi?s tangi in 1910, where two reproductions of this portrait were prominently displayed.

Rachel B. Reckitt 1908-1955 oil on board 1928 "Watchet Lifeboat" 61cms x 91cms. The first lifeboat was in 1875 and closed in 1944. The boat was taken a long the quay to be launched on a wagon. The lifeboat house is now the town library. This is a preparatory sketch with lines for perspective. All proceeds to the Staithes & Runswick RNLI.

Peake (Mervyn).- Strange (Edward F.) Japanese Colour Prints, fifth edition, Mervyn Peake's copy with ink note "Bought in Charing X Road Spring 1931" with pencil note below "left by M. L. Peake" with Sark Art Gallery bookplate and pencil sketch of hunched figure all to pastedown, front and rear endpapers with small laid-down paper slips, each identifying the signature and dates of a Japanese woodblock artist, plates, some light soiling or creasing to text, a few pencil notes or underlinings, original cloth, rubbed, spine ends and corners bumped, 8vo, 1923.⁂ An intriguing Peake-related item, seemingly owned by him whilst studying at the Royal Academy.

VERA CAVE (English, 1930s); a group of four paintings comprising a still life pencil sketch of fruit in pedestal dish, a watercolour depicting the head of an orchid, a watercolour still life of flowers 'Sweet Peas' and a watercolour of the back elevation of a red brick Georgian manor house with gardens to the front, all framed and glazed, smallest frame size 41 x 34cm, largest frame size 83 x 58cm (4).Vera Cave was a watercolour artist from Blackpool, Lancashire and taught watercolour painting. Her artwork can be seen in the Grundy Art Gallery and she exhibited at the Royal Academy.Purchased from the estate of Vera Cave by the vendor's late father.
JOHN LENNON; a framed montage of nine photographs of The Beatles star, centred with a sketch titled 'The Cow Moo' and signed John Lennon, further titled to the mount, 48.5 x 68.5cm, framed and glazed. CONDITION REPORT Some of the photographs are of noticeably lesser quality than others. The sketch of the cow is slightly wavy in the mount and bears a holographic oval sticker inscribed 'CLM 10083', the John Lennon signature is legible but faded.
