Ernest Howard Shepard (1879-1976) Us Too Pencil, pen and ink on card Signed and dated Jan 28. 36.5cm x 24cm Provenance: The mother of the vendor worked for a Mrs Purvis of Home Close, Burghfield Common in the 1920s/30s. Mrs Purvis was a friend of Shepard, and gave the picture to the mother of the vendor after her service came to an end. It was not uncommon for Shepard to complete replica gifts of illustrations, which is what we understand this sketch to be. The original can be seen on p. 35 in Now We Are Six, first published 1927.
