McQuarrie was one of the first artists to begin working on the film and his designs became some of the franchise's most iconic characters.Rendered in pencil on a single sheet of large-size illustration paper, the sketches depict very early versions of a more primate-like Chewbacca with dual-bandoliers and Han Solo in a Flash Gordon-style outfit, as well as two additional sketches of this lemur-like Chewbacca. Both Chewbacca and Solo are armed with multiple holstered blasters on thick pocketed belts. The sketches are some of the earliest designs done for the film, and the page is signed "R. McQ." by the artist. This sketch is featured on page 86 of the Abrams publication Star Wars Art: Ralph McQuarrie. McQuarrie drew this sketch during pre-production in early 1975 as part of his process for creating the famous "Battle for Death Star" production illustration, featuring a Y-wing fighter diving on an early iteration of the Death Star's signature dome.The sketch is rendered in graphite and outlined in coloured pencil on vellum. McQuarrie did line drawings on vellum and then traced over them to transfer outlines to illustration board when creating his paintings. It shows an early concept of the Death Star with a heavily-detailed surface and a large cannon opening. H.R.H. Prince Albert - two important pencil sketch designs for the diamond and sapphire coronet designed for Queen Victoria by the Prince and made in 1840 (their marriage year) by Joseph Kitching. The coronet is considered one of Queen Victoria's most beloved and important jewels and was often worn by her. It was subsequently handed down through the Royal Family until it was gifted by H.M.King George V to his daughter H.R.H.Princess Mary The Princess Royal and Countess of Harewood. After Princess Mary's death it was eventually sold to the Victoria and Albert Museum - a very worthy and apt resting place for this very romantic gesture designed by a devoted husband for his newly married wife and Queen. The two small pencil sketches measuring 5 x 7 cm and 5 x 6 cm are mounted on blue paper with a panel 'Drawn by Prince Albert' and protected by a fold of tissue paper. Provenance: removed from the previous lot - a presentation book from Queen Victoria and given by her to her Groom in Waiting General Sir Frederick Stovin G.C.B.,K.C.M.G. (1783-1865) who served The Queen from 1837 until his death in 1865.

*ADRIAN HILL (1895-1977) 'The Black Line, Oppy Sector, 1918' First World War trench scene with two soldiers surveying the field, signed, titled and dated lower left, watercolour and ink, 29cm x 43cm.Adrian Hill was a British 20th Century artist who was most famous for his work as a war artist and his pivotal role in the creation and promotion of art as therapy. He studied at the St. John's Wood Art School and later at the Royal College of Art, going on to teach at the Hornsey School of Art and Westminster School of Art. Hill was elected President of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters in 1968 and his art style combined elements of impressionism and surrealism. He served in the Honourable Artillery Company during World War One, the first artist to be commissioned by the Imperial War Museum to record first-hand conflict on the Western Front. During a period of convalescence whilst suffering from tuberculosis he began to teach drawing and painting to other patients, including injured soldiers and was instrumental in setting up an art programme as art therapy for patients. He also set up a scheme with the British Red Cross to lend copies of famous pictures to hospitals and organised a lecture series, as well as writing many books about painting and drawing, and in the 1950s and early 1960s presented a BBC children's television programme called Sketch Club
