ATTRIBUTED TO JEAN MICHEL MOREAU LE JEUNE (FRENCH 1741-1814) THE MARRIAGE OF MARIE-ANTOINETTE TO THE FUTURE LOUIS XVI, VERSAILLES 1770 Watercolour and ink on paper laid down on card, unframed 16.7cm x 30cm (6.6in x 11.8in) Note: This drawing would appear to be a preparatory sketch for a larger drawing (now held at the Chateau of Versailles) by Jean Michel Moreau le Jeune entitled `Illumination du parc de Versailles et du Grand Canal`` with the description `A l`occasion du mariage du Dauphin futur Louis XVI avec l`archiduchesse Marie-Antoinette, le 19 mai 1770`, illustrated in the article `Les Fêtes royales au XVIIIe siècle` by Jérôme de La Gorce in "Versailles", edited by Pierre Arizzoli-Clémentel, Paris, Mazenod, 2009, v. 2, p. 539. The attribution to the hand of Jean Michel Moreau le Jeune has been confirmed by Jérôme de La Gorce of L`Université Paris Sorbonne-Paris IV.
India A rare first Edition of The Court And Camp Of Runjeet Sing With An Introductory Sketch Of The Origin And Rise Of The Sihk State by The Hon W.G. Osborne Henry Colburn London 8vo. Bound in contemporary half calf with marbled boards. Modern calf spine with twin morocco labels. pp. xliv (Introduction) 45-236; with 16 lithographs including of Ranjit Singh and his sons. Captain W.G. Osborne was a nephew of Lord Auckland and Emily Eden and a member of the mission sent to the court of Ranjit Singh in May 1838. This work is a vivid account of the court life of the Punjab. He also had a high regard for the Sikh soldiers and their artillery. His work stands with Cunningham as one of the most positive of British responses to the Sikhs and their charismatic leader. The fine lithographs are taken from Osborne`s own drawings.

She was the only salaried women painter to be employed by the War Artists Advisory Committee and her work during this period uniquely reflects women`s engagement with the war, particularly the Women`s Land Army.

An Eastern brass frame with intricate pierced work and depictions in relief of Indian Elephants, birds, figures and trailing foliage, the pediment with mirrored depictions of Peacocks either side of an oval medallion. 19 1/8`` high, 12 1/8`` wide, the arched picture/mirror recess containing a good pastel sketch of a young lady in traditional Welsh costume including a tall hat. Signed lower right ``John Parry, Oct 1st 1864``.
A detailed log of the rescue voyage of HMS Comet from Port Jackson in Australia to Pitcairns Island, dated between December 27th 1830 and February 27th 1831. The six page log is embellished with four monochrome watercolours of the North and South heads of Port Jackson, Cape Brett New Zealand, a small village on the eastern side of the bay where the sloop landed on the island and a sketch of the entire island, Pitcairn, the latter initialled JBB. It begins with why the log was written and goes on to describe specific people on board, the weather conditions, descriptions of the natives of New Zealand and details of landing at Pitcairns and talks with the natives to leave highlighting that they had not had any rain for fourteen months. Accompanying the log is an ink drawn map displaying the voyage to Pitcairn and back via Tahiti. (split along all folds) The inhabitants of Pitcairns Island had been suffering from a lack of water when in 1830 the British Government ordered that they should be rescued and settled in Tahiti. HMS Comet, under the command of Captain Alex. A Sandilands, along with the Lucy Ann, a Barque from Sidney, set sail on December 27th 1830 and, after stopping in New Zealand to replenish stores, they, according to the log, observed Pitcairns at first light on the 27th February 1831. Eighty seven inhabitants were boarded onto the Lucy Ann and arrived in Tahiti on March 6th to be warmly received by Queen Pomare. Provenance. From the collection of the late Commander B. J.
