TREVILLION - ROY OF THE ROVERS Original 1963 Roy of the Rovers artwork by the leading sports artist Paul Trevillion who has been and still is the leading artist of sporting artwork, indeed his artwork hangs in the FIFA Museum in Zurich and he exhibits at the national Football Museum in Manchester. For the first time , in the 65th Anniversary year of Roy of the Rovers, a rare museum piece from the Trevillion collection is offered at auction. It is a 1963 official double stamped Roy of the Rovers, Fleetway Publications Ltd Tiger Comic proof. It shows Trevillion's front page artwork. It is an invaluable one of a kind historic Roy of the Rovers artefact and comes with a framed and mounted first pencil draft sketch which was sketched by Paul in the Fleetway offices. Both have signed Paul Trevillion certificates of authenticity and the actual Roy of the Rovers Tiger Comic in which the artwork appears (10/8/63) is also included. Good
FERUSON - RILEY 1999 Absolutely superb item , Calf bound signed sketch book , signed by renowned artist Harold Riley and by Alex Ferguson. The Limited edition sketchbook, number 584 of 1999 copies produced, is a record of the trip to Barcelona by the artist, Harold Riley to support Manchester United in the 1999 Champions League Final which Manchester United won with two late goals to defeat Bayern Munchen 2-1 and they later completed the Treble. Riley presented the original sketch book to Sir Alex and his family in 2000 and this Limited Edition was published in 2007 and includes copies of personal Harold Riley memorabilia from the trip such as copies of his flight ticket, seat ticket for the game etc with notes for the sketches in the artists handwriting. Circa 130 pages , some sketches in colour, some in black and white and more besides. Bound in green calf leather with a leather tie and enclosed in a box with Rileys signature and 1999 in gilt on the front. A superb piece of ephemera to commemorate United's greatest hour ( in the minds of many people). The original sale price of the limited edition book was £1500 and they are a much sought after item.
