1952 Royal Enfield J2 500ccReg. no. LFO 267Frame no. 2584Engine no. 2584 (see note below)In 1948 the twin port 500cc J2 came onto the market and was an instant hit as a sidecar machine. Initially it was destined solely for the export market, but after receiving an order for hundreds of the J2s from the Milk Marketing Board, it was decided to drop the J model and release the J2 for the UK market. This J2 was totally restored in 2007/08 to a very high standard and is an excellent example of this rare-to-the-market twin port Royal Enfield. The engine has had further engine upgrades since the restoration including needle roller big-end bearings and electronic ignition. The owner says the bike starts and runs very well and is a lovely bike to ride. Note: It should be noted that the engine number in the logbook is 2584 which differs from the engine stampings.Comes with – a current V5C, over £1,500 worth of receipts for ancillary restoration parts alone and some photographs.

An Edison electric pen, having a nickel-plated flywheel stamped 'Patented Aug 15 1876' and electric motor formed by two electromagnetic coils enclosed by a black painted and gilt lined cast iron frame, all over a textured shaft and oscillating steel stylus. 14cm ***The first electric copy machine, and probably the first practical application of the electric motor. Edison invented the electric pen as a means to produce copies of his correspondence and notes. A small electric motor operates a tiny needle in a rapid up/down motion, producing a series of small holes as the operator writes on specially treated paper. Later, a roller was used to press ink through the holes, producing duplicates of the original document. It was quickly surpassed by the typewriter but has gained notoriety as the predecessor to tattoo machines. Samuel O'Reilly discovered that Edison's oscillating pen could be used to inject ink into the skin and in 1891 he patented an add-on ink reservoir and supply tube for this use. Soon after, Thomas Riley of London improved the Edison/O'Reilly rotary version by patenting a single coil machine constructed from a modified doorbell. However, the Edison electric pen is widely regarded as the first 'modern' tattooing device.

The letterpress was printed by Seagrave, printer in Chichester, with the engravings printed by Blake and his wife Catherine on their own roller press at the cottage in Felpham, Sussex where the Blakes had moved in 1800. Hayley wrote the ballads in an attempt to help Blake make money through the sale of the illustrated work, but the scheme seems to have been a financial failure for which Blake bore most of the costs. This first quarto edition of the animal ballads was followed in 1805 by an octavo edition (in an attempt to recover costs).
