A brass barrelled flintlock naval blunderbuss by Wilkinson of Bristol, c 1810, 32½” overall, 3 stage bell mouth barrel 17”, breech struck with “London” and maker’s proofs; flat lock with stout swan neck cock, rainproof pan, and roller on frizzen spring, plate engraved with fern tip border and signed in oval; walnut fullstock with chequered wrist, vacant oval silver escutcheon, brass mounts including trigger guard engraved with a bird and with pineapple finial and butt plate tang engraved with game birds; brass tipped ramrod. Good Working Order and Condition (light wear and surface rust to lock, cock probably a contemporary replacement, top jaw and screw missing). Plate 38
A late 18th century brass barrelled flintlock blunderbuss with spring bayonet, 30½” overall, 2 stage bell mouth barrel 14½”, octagonal breech engraved “Dublin Castle” and with 12½” top spring bayonet released by a thumb catch on the breech tang; plain stepped lock having flat swan neck cock and roller on frizzen spring, plate signed “Denning” (faint); plain walnut fullstock with brass mounts, including flower engraved trigger guard with acorn finial, and engraved butt plate tang; with its original horn tipped ramrod with iron worm.Good Working Order and Condition (bayonet spring AF, lock and bayonet worn with rust patches, slight damage to stock around the breech tang). A good quality brass barrelled flintlock blunderbuss with spring bayonet, by J & W Richards, c 1810, 30” overall, 2 stage bell mouth barrel 14½”, octagonal breech struck with Tower private proofs, mounted with 12½” top spring bayonet released by thumb catch on the barrel tang; line engraved flat stepped lock with safety bolt, swan neck cock, and large roller on frizzen spring, the plate signed “J & W Richards”; nicely figured walnut fullstock with deeply chequered wrist, brass mounts, including flower engraved butt plate tang, French style trigger guard with pineapple finial, and flower engraved flat side plate; the horn tipped ramrod with iron worm. Good Working Order and Clean Condition, the stock crisp, with dark patina to steel parts. Plate 39
A brass barrelled flintlock blunderbuss with spring bayonet, by Walker of Norwich, c 1800; 30½” overall, 3 stage bell mouth barrel 15½”, octagonal breech having platinum touch hole, and engraved “Norwich”, mounted beneath with 8½” spring bayonet released by a thumb catch on the front of the trigger guard, and with brass tipped bayonet with iron worm mounted on the left side; plain flat stepped lock with safety bolt, swan neck cock, and large roller on the frizzen spring, plate signed “Walker”; walnut halfstock with Egg or Prosser type chequered wrist, and plain brass mounts including French style trigger guard. Good Working Order and Condition, the lock with dark patina. Plate 39
A rare, possibly unique, take down flintlock blunderbuss with spring bayonet, by Sharpe, c 1800, 31½” overall, bell mouth barrel 15½”, comprising 7” steel breech section with platinum touch hole, false breech with slightly raised panels, and engraved with sunburst, and screw off 9” brass muzzle section, with 8” spring bayonet beneath; flat line engraved lock having flat swan neck cock and roller on the frizzen spring, plate engraved “Sharpe” and with small bird in flight on the tail; walnut halfstock with chequered wrist, the butt being detachable by means of a bayonet catch, engraved steel mounts including trigger guard with pineapple finial, trigger beneath the fore end which operates a rod through the ramrod pipe to release the bayonet, and with rectangular silver barrel wedge plates and horn fore end cap. Good Working Order and Condition (some scoring to stock, light surface rust to breech, patches of deeper rust to the bayonet, bayonet locking lug missing). When dismantled these three parts occupy a maximum length of 12”. Plate 40
An early 19th century American .36” Kentucky flintlock rifle of the “Bedford School”, 63½” overall, thick octagonal barrel 47½” with fixed rearsight and brass blade fore sight; flat stepped lock of English type with flat swan neck cock and roller on frizzen spring, the plate with very faint traces of maker’s name “Smith”; slender reddish brown maple fullstock having incised lines along the lower edges of the butt and fore end, and with cheek rest to the butt; simple plain brass mounts comprise deep butt plate with a button on the tang to release the patch box cover, patch box mount with circular open work head with curls, trigger guard with typical long grip and housing double set triggers, engraved wavy side plate, ramrod pipes, and fore end cap; stock also inlaid with plain silver plaques in the form of lozenges, teardrops and crescent, one of the butt plaques engraved “A--ntow” (worn), with replacement wooden ramrod. Good Working Order and Condition, with pleasing patina (set triggers need attention, the barrel with dark patina over pitting, lock worn, some old repairs to fore end) Plate 43
A good cased pair of officer’s 14 bore flintlock holster pistols by Alexander Wilson, London, in the style of duelling pistols, c 1820, 14” overall, heavy sighted octagonal barrels 9” with scratch rifling, single gold line at breech, platinum touch hole and rectangular recess for maker’s poincon (now missing); flat locks with safety bolt, French style cock, rainproof pan, and cam and roller on frizzen spring and frizzen, the plate engraved with fern tip border, sunburst, small spray of foliage, and signed “Alex.Wilson, London”; walnut halfstocks with rounded chequered butt, having horn fore end cap, silver barrel wedge plates and escutcheons, and steel mounts comprising small domed butt cap with tail, spurred border engraved trigger guard with trophies and pineapple finial, and pineapple throat pipe; with swivel ramrod. Good Working Order and Condition, the locks quite crisp (patches of light staining to barrels and mounts); in their green baize lined fitted mahogany case with brass folding carrying handle and circular escutcheon in the lid, and with trade label of William Bond, 59 Lombard St, London,containing 3 way leather covered flask (leather bubbled, base detached), 16 bore steel pincer ball mould, brass tipped mahogany loading/cleaning rod with worm and jag, double ended screwdriver, balls, and patches. A late 18th century Belgian officer’s 22 bore flintlock holster pistol, 13¼” overall, half octagonal barrel 7”, the rounded lock signed “Dit Biron” and having swan neck cock and roller on frizzen spring; plain walnut fullstock with steel mounts. GWO & QGC (metalwork worn with some deep pitting, stock repaired and filled). There were two Liege makers by the name of (Lambert) Dit Biron, both working c 1782-1810
A pair of 20 bore flintlock travelling pistols by Sykes of Oxford, c 1820, 9¼” overall, sighted twist barrels 4½”, with raised ribs, gold lines and platinum touch holes; with signed flat stepped locks having safety bolts, pigeon breasted cocks, semi rainproof pans and roller on frizzen springs; the dark stained fullstocks having rounded chequered butts, steel mounts including engraved trigger guards with pineapple finials, and replacement brass tipped ramrods. GWO & basically GC (some pitting to locks, one safety bolt missing, the other replaced, extensive patched repairs to stocks); in a later dark stained baized lined fitted wooden case with a copper powder flask (battered). A 40 bore flintlock travelling pistol c 1820, 10” overall, octagonal twist barrel 5” with platinum line and touch hole, scroll engraved breech plug and Birmingham proofs; the flat lock with safety bolt, rainproof pan and roller on frizzen spring, the plate engraved with scrolls and signed “J. Manton” in script; walnut fullstock with rounded chequered butt and German silver escutcheon, barrel wedge plates and flat fore end cap; with engraved steel trigger guard, plain throat pipe, and swivel ramrod. GWO & C (safety bolt replaced, fore end repaired, trigger guard lightly pitted). Plate 7

GWO & basically GC (worn overall, patched and filled repairs to stock). Richards & Hall are listed at 39 Fist St Hill in 1807. Plate 8
Flintlock Officer's pistol by W. Parker London , .650 carbine bore barrel with gilt touch mark, lock fitted with saftey catch, waterproof pan and roller fizzen, stock with silver mounts, swivel ramrod, 37cm overall lengthCondition report: This pistol’s condition is pretty much as you see it online. Fine overall pitting, small scuffs to the wood. The only faults are small damage to wood around the lock plate, dents to the but (probably from the but being used to hammer a round into another gun) small chip to the wood stock at the muzzle end (lock side) Marks to the silver plates around the barrel pin. Lock is fully working and all original as far as I can see inside. Bore is good with minor spots of pitting.
