A RARE GENTLEMAN'S DUNHILL UNIQUE FRENCH MALACHITE LACQUERED "BALL" LIGHTER CIRCA 1930 A Malachite lacquered effect body, a roller strike mechanism with a flip top arm, silver plated screw on base, patent numbers, body diameter is approx 42mm and height measures approx 50mm including the lighter arm. Bible.- - Megillah Esther, manuscript in Hebrew on 5 joined vellum membranes, wear and staining to start of first membrane and to edges, 19th century annotation and date [1840] to verso, small amounts of decoration mostly to the top line of text for the first 2 membranes and text corrections to the last membrane, on contemporary wooden roller, circa 240 x 2600mm., [mid-late 18th century, early 19th century].
A Japanese shunga scroll probably Meiji period, coloured woodblocks on paper depicting twelve couples in erotic embraces, on wooden roller with floral embroidered cover and tie, 146in. (371cm.) unfurled. Condition: Each of the paintings is approximately 30 cm. in width and in fairly good condition, other than each having at least one vertical crease but these disappear when the scroll is laid out flat. The colours are still strong since the scroll must have remained rolled up for most of the time. Two of the paintings towards the centre of the scroll have become separated at some time and have been rejoined with a piece of tape at the back. However, they were not realigned exactly and there is a gap of approximately 2 - 3mm between the two edges.

One small dent to front near assay marks. Dent to underside of one corner. Mechanism appears good.
