CHINESE SCHOOL, 18th/19th century A painted hanging scroll in a case, depicting a Jesuit Missionary Station, with four figures in and around a courtyard with a small dog, another figure looking down from a tower, 140cm x 95cm, opaque watercolours on silk, upon a woven laid silk borders, solid hardwood roller, overall 217cm x 114.5cm. Condition report: Numerous vertical splits and considerable wear to colours, particularly in the foliage of the right hand building and in the windows of the same, also on the leading two full-length figures and to the right side of their stance, some patches, colour missing top left angle and top centre sky (in particular) general scuffs and stains throughout. The silk background is in good order and may be of a later date to the scroll painting itself.

*WWI. An original section of WW1 German "Lozenge" design Tarnstoff aircraft camouflage fabric. Roller printed dye on flax, a portion salvaged from the wing of a captured late war German aircraft (see hand written note on fabric - dated "1919") - likely to have been brought to England, examined, flown and tested to destruction as were many "enemy" aircraft, of the 4 colour 1918 pattern designed for the under surfaces. Slight fading of the colours, has length of "rib tape" which was of the "Upper" surface colour way and was cut into strips and doped over rib positions to protect stitched areas from weather ingress, unusually exhibiting steel grommet "drain holes" - which allowed moisture to drain from inside the airframe. On wings these were situated at trailing edge undersurfaces, presented in a glazed frame, 63 x 84 cm (1)
