Y VICTORIAN TAXIDERMY BIRD DIORAMA LATE 19TH CENTURY with nineteen specimens, to include a black cockatoo, two golden orioles, an Australian king parrot, a plum-headed parakeet, a crimson rosella, an Australian golden whistler and an Indian roller, among other examples, in a walnut shadowbox case (90cm wide, 82cm high, 25cm deep)
A William IV rosewood breakfast table, circular, with snap action and faceted column, with circular base raised on paw feet with castors. Diameter 132 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The table top is flat and of good colour. There are no splits and no lifting areas of veneer. There are slight undulations to the veneers in places but no lifting. The crossbanded edge has two small pieces of veneer missing one +/- 1.5 cm in length the other 1 cm. The frieze beneath is a little dry in places but in generally good order. The snap action works as it should. The two brass pegs are present. The bearers beneath the table have evidence of old woodworm which appear to be long gone and in our opinion is not problematic. The table is structurally very sound on the base and there is no movement. The faceted column and petal carvings beneath are in generally good condition with only minor stress fractures and marks. The circular base below is in good order and the feet are original with wooden roller castors beneath.
A George II/III oak wing armchair, upholstered in foliate patterned silk and raised on moulded legs of square section terminating in roller castors. Width across arms 79 cm, height to top of back 118 cm. NOTE - sold with restoration invoice for £3,906 (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The height from the floor to the top of the oak front rail is 39.8 cm. The upholstered section above this tops out at +/- 42.5 cm. As stated in the description the chair was fully restored and reupholstered after one of the Cockermouth floods. It is therefore in extremely good condition and could be used in its current state without the need for any work. There are no loose joints. Both front legs have had old dowelled repairs. This is at the top where the legs join the front and side rails. The same comments apply to the rear legs. None of the legs have any spliced repairs or any broken or missing sections. On the top right hand corner of the front rail there is a small let in repair which blends very well with the remainder of the rail. The castors are period castors but the circular metal plate is slightly larger than the bottom of the legs so they are either later editions or perhaps the chair did not originally have castors. There are faint traces of old long gone woodworm holes. The upholstery is in extremely good order and the chair has clearly seen little use since its restoration.
A pair of 19th century brass single beds, each with two ends and side rails. Width 91 cm. CONDITION REPORT: The bed frames would fit a standard mattress. The width across the bed irons is 91.5 cm. The length is 192 cm. There is one castor missing but this is only the ceramic roller and not the housing. Both frames are structurally sound. There are no losses to the brasswork. The brass is generally tarnished as one would expect.
