A George III mahogany serpentine fronted sideboard, fitted with a series of drawers and raised on tapered legs of square section, the sides modelled as drawers and cupboards but with only one actual, all raised on tapered legs terminating in brass and leather roller castors. Width 152 cm. CONDITION REPORT: We would date this as pre 1800 judging by the leather roller castors. We believe that the handles are original. There are no other handle holes and the marks left by the oval drops would indicate that the handles are likely to be original. As stated in the description the sides of the piece are modelled as false drawers and cupboards. The right hand false drawer has incorrect later handles that go through the original holes. The sideboard is structurally sound but does require some work. Whilst the top is flat there are old non-open stress fractures to the veneers in places and minor scuffs and marks. The crossbanded edge has had some replacement sections. The drawer and cupboard fronts are in generally good order as is the cockbeading. There are minor veneer repairs in areas which should be visible from our image. The colour match is poor. The legs are all original and whilst scuffed and marked are in generally good order. The roller castors are all present and original. The centre right hand leg has a small section of moulding which is detached. We have the piece. The lead lining to the right hand cellarette drawer is perished in places. The backboards are original and there is no evidence of any woodworm.
