A good quality small French flintlock blunderbuss, c 1800, made for the tourist market, 25¾” overall, 2 stage steel barrel 13”, with bell mouth muzzle, St Etienne proof mark, and engraved “London”; rounded lock with swan neck cock, rainproof pan, and roller on frizzen spring, frizzen countersunk to fit over the lip of the pan and decorated with raised teardrop, cock and lockplate overlaid with gold trophy type decoration, plate engraved with illegible signature; dark wood fullstock having chequered wrist and steel mounts, including scrolled trigger guard and engraved butt plate tang and side nail plates. An interesting 38 bore pill lock pistol, by Grierson, London, 8” overall, sighted octagonal barrel 3½”, engraved “Grierson. Bond St. London” , the “nipple” bolster having hollow to take the pill; signed lock and flat hammer engraved with scrolls, and having pivoted safety/ pill retainer held in place by a long flat spring with roller bearing, and which is automatically flicked back by a spur on the hammer at the moment of firing, walnut fullstock having rounded chequered butt and square backed steel trigger guard engraved with border and scrolls and with pineapple finial; brass mounted ramrod. Good Working Order and Condition (the safety/ pill retainer a good replacement). Plate 30

*Ravilious (Eric, 1903-1942). A pair of Garden Implements curtains, [1957], two fine cotton chintz curtains, printed by Edinburgh Weavers with Garden Implements design in pink by Eric Ravilious (EW monogram visible on turn-in), machine-stitched and with rufflette heading tape, lined, some minor marks and discolouration, and one very small hole, each curtain drop 98cm (38.5ins), width 105.5cm (41.5ins) Shortly before his death Eric Ravilious designed a number of ceramic patterns for Wedgwood. Several motifs from his Garden Implements series, originally created for a lemonade set in 1939, were later used on this roller-printed fabric produced by Edinburgh Weavers under the name 'Harvest'. This fabric, featuring minutely detailed vignettes of garden paraphernalia, including a beehive, sunflowers, a wheelbarrow, a cloche, rhubarb, and a barrel of garden tools, is extremely rare; even small samples and offcuts seldom appear on the market.
