6" scale freelance design coal-fired steam traction engine, originally built in 1903 and based on a locomobile engine, as fitted to Stanley steam cars of the age. Road Registration VSV800 and is supplied with the V5 log book. Originally built by Mr R A Briggs of Shripney, this engine was originally used for general haulage duties at an engineering works in the Birmingham area, these duties included moving railway wagons with the largest load being a 28ft Southern Railway Guards van, operating water pumps and saw benches. This model was featured in the Model Engineer Volume 68 No.1653 January 12th 1933, and also in their magazine in Volume 95 No.2362 August 15th 1946, with both copies of the books/magazines are being sold with the locomotive. After 1946 it was laid discarded in the works where in the 1980s it was purchased by Ernie Baughan and later in 1987 sold to the current vendors. The engine underwent substantial rebuilding in 1985/86 after laying idle under piles of old sacks for approximately 50 years. All original parts, where possible have been retained with the exception of the boiler, firebox and smoke box. During a storm on October 16th 1987 the roof of a garage where the locomotive was stored collapsed and the engine suffered superficial damage, this meant the engine was completely stripped down to remove brick and rubble dust and any abrasive debris. (A selection of photos are included that depict the damage and also rebuild process). The engine measures 6ft 6 inches and is 3ft wide. The height to top of the chimney is 4ft 6 inches and the flywheel diameter is 16 inches. With a gross weight of approximately 1 ton. Twin cylinder engine with Stephensons Valve Gear. A sliding gear is provided working on the squared end of the crankshaft, meshing with a gear wheel on a countershaft that also carries the chain pinion, with the final drive being by heavy (Reynolds) roller chain onto a differential. Worm link steering, with rubber tyes, and tender capacity of approximately 6 gallons. The boiler of welded all steel construction is fed by a Penberthy Injector and the driven pump has a working pressure of 90 PSI.An up to date video of the engine in working order can be viewed by clicking the play button aboveThe engine is supplied with a large amount of paper work, history, registration document, previous boiler certificates, and photographs.
