LIBERT A LIÈGE, EARLY 19TH CENTURY each with sighted barrel formed in three stages, engraved tang, signed rounded border-engraved brass lock fitted with engraved iron cock and steel spring with roller, walnut full stock carved with a raised moulding and foliage about the tang, moulded brass mounts including trigger-guard decorated with trophies on the bow, solid side-plate and 'bird's head' pommel engraved with scrolls and foliage, and wooden ramrods 15.7 cm; 6 ¼ in barrels (2) Lambert Libert is recorded as a gun dealer in Liège circa 1798-1809.
A PAIR OF 40 BORE FRENCH FLINTLOCK RIFLED OFFICER'S PISTOLS, EARLY 19TH CENTURY each with octagonal swamped sighted micro-groove rifled barrel, stamped with the barrelsmith's mark and with traces of punched and gilt decoration at the breech, engraved tang incorporating the back-sight, bevelled lock engraved with foliage on the tail, fitted with engraved cock, semi-rainproof pan, and steel spring with roller, set trigger, figured walnut full stock, (each fore-end with small repairs), chequered butt carved with a band of foliage around the cap and applied with a slender panel of silver over the spine, burnished iron mounts comprising trigger-guard with urn-finial, butt-cap decorated with a flower, two-piece side-plate involving a lion's head and a bouquet of flowers, and two ramrod-pipes, and one retaining its horn-tipped baleen ramrod (the other replaced) 18.5 cm; 7 1/4 in barrels (2)
A CASED PAIR OF 22 BORE FLINTLOCK DUELLING PISTOLS BY HARVEY WALKLATE MORTIMER, CIRCA 1780 each with rebrowned twist octagonal sighted barrel signed 'H Mortimer' in script and inscribed 'London' in italic capitals, engraved with a band of beadwork (refreshed), struck with the barrelsmith's, London Gunmakers Company view and proof marks at the breech, stepped lock engraved with foliage on the tail and beneath the pan, signed in script beneath the latter, fitted with bevelled cock decorated en suite, and steel with roller, figured walnut full stock, flat-sided butt with flattened spine, engraved iron mounts comprising trigger-guard with a flower on the bow and acorn finial, pear-shaped butt-pate decorated with a sunburst, two ramrod-pipes (later ramrods): in a contemporary fitted oak case lined in green baize, the case lid with flush-fitting brass carrying handle on the outside and trade label for William Bond at 59 Lombard Street on the inside, complete with a brass three-way flask 26.0 cm; 10 1/4 in barrels Flat-sided butts, characteristically associated with Wogdon, are rarely encountered with this maker. A FLINTLOCK MECHANISM FOR AN EAST INDIA COMPANY NEW LAND PATTERN SERVICE PISTOL, DATED 1816; ANOTHER FLINTLOCK MECHANISM AND ANOTHER FOR A SPORTING GUN, CIRCA 1815-20 the first with flat bevelled border-engraved plate stamped with the date on the tail, East India Company Rampant Lion, and crowned '2' beneath the pan; the second a flintlock mechanism (cock missing) with flat bevelled plate with 'GR' crowned beneath the brass pan, rounded tail stamped with bale mark, 'PR' over 'C' beneath 'Tower' (some pitting); the third with bright bevelled stepped plate, rainproof pan and steel-spring with roller the first 13.6 cm; 5 3/8 in (3) Provenance James S. Gooding, sold Bonhams, Knightsbridge part of lots 181 and 205.
A CASED PAIR OF 15 BORE FLINTLOCK DUELLING PISTOLS BY TWIGG, CIRCA 1790 each with browned twist sighted barrel inscribed 'London' in block capitals on the top flat, stamped with private proof marks on the left of the breech and stamped 'ITH STUBBS' beneath, engraved tangs incorporating the back-sight, stepped lock signed in script beneath the pan, fitted with bolt safety-catch, associated bevelled cock and roller on the steel spring, figured walnut half-stock, finely chequered butt, engraved iron mounts comprising trigger-guard decorated with bouquets on the bow and with pineapple finial, two ramrod-pipes, horn fore-end cap, vacant shield-shaped silver escutcheon, and each with associated horn-tipped ramrod, one with iron worm (refinished throughout): in a contemporary fitted mahogany case lined in green baize, the lid with brass flush-fitting carrying handle, with associated bullet mould and powder-flask 22.7 cm; 8 7/8 in barrels
A 32 BORE FLINTLOCK COAT PISTOL BY SPENCER, LYNN, BIRMINGHAM PROOF MARKS, CIRCA 1820 with octagonal twist sighted barrel inscribed 'Lynn' (rubbed) and stamped with proof marks beneath, platinum lined vent, engraved tang incorporating the back-sight, signed stepped bevelled lock, fitted with rainproof pan, steel spring with roller and 'French cock' (the upper portion replaced), figured walnut full stock, chequered grip, engraved iron mounts including trigger-guard (light pitting), vacant silver escutcheon, and silver barrel bolt escutcheons 12.7 cm; 5 in barrel Matthew S. Spencer is recorded in Lynn Regis (King's Lynn, Norfolk), circa 1804-1853.

An SB 18 bore flintlock sporting gun c 1800, 50½” overall, half octagonal barrel 35” with gold lines at breech and gold touch hole (all possibly replaced); the flat stepped lock having French style cock, rainproof pan and roller on frizzen spring, plate with oval gold escutcheon engraved (probably at a later date) “EGG” in copper plate script; walnut halfstock with chequered wrist; steel mounts including scrolled trigger guard engraved with game bird and with pineapple finial. GWO & generally GC (slightly worn overall, barrel heavily refinished, fore end cap and piece of fore end missing, with a crude steel ramrod.) Plate 7
