DISNEYLAND PARK - Space Mountain Ride Vehicle - A Space Mountain ride vehicle from Disneyland Park. First opened in 1977, Space Mountain is a steel-frame enclosed roller coaster with a "wild mouse" layout that relied on sharp flat turns, small hills and rapid hops as compared to other roller coasters with drops and dives.Space Mountain was Disneyland's second roller coaster after the Matterhorn Bobsleds, and the second version built with its exterior serving as one of Disneyland's iconic mountain-like landmarks. During opening, six of the original Mercury astronauts attended the ceremony and a new attendance record was set for Disneyland over the course of the Memorial Day weekend. One of the popular dark ride attractions with an immersive experience including sound effects and music, Space Mountain underwent a series of cosmetic renovations starting in 1997. During one of the ride refurbishments, speakers were added to the cars. This lot consists of a three-row, two-seater vehicle shaped like a rocket painted grey with white glow-in-the-dark panels and blue bucket seats. It is numbered "6" and features a red rubber front bumper, denoting it as the front car of a train, which is why the rear jets are absent. The vehicle is made of metal and fibreglass with foam and rubber components. It has a lap bar for each seat and a safety plaque for each row. The vehicle exhibits a buildup of grime in the crevices, discolouration, a crack in the hull, and cracked and fragile rubber and foam. This lot is accompanied by a pair of 35mm slides.
