2004 MV Agusta F4 1000 'Special Parts' 1 of 50Frame no. ZCGF511BA5V002244Arguably the only surprising thing about the original MV F4 of 1998 was that it was launched as a 750 at a time when the class was fast becoming moribund. The Japanese factories' main focus of attention had already switched to 1,000cc sports bikes but it took all of six years for MV to follow suit. Launched in 2004, the F4 1000S adhered to the same basic layout as the preceding 750, complete with radial 16-valve cylinder head, four-pipe exhaust system, six-speed cassette gearbox and tubular 'trellis' frame. Power went up to 166bhp (claimed) which meant around 150 horsepower at the rear wheel, good enough for a top speed in the region of 290 km/h. Wisely, MV chose not to change the F4's overall appearance, the Massimo Tamburini-designed 750 being widely acknowledged as one of the most beautiful motorcycles ever made. As usual, there were various limited edition versions available offering even higher equipment levels and extra helpings of carbon fibre. Showing only 3,436km on the odometer, the machine offered here is the 49th of only 50 F4 1000 'Special Parts' body-kit models built, as confirmed by the attached plaque. Noteworthy features include 'Tamburini' signature and CRC (Cagiva Research Centre) badges. Please note this lot will be subject to additional VAT on the hammer price.Lot to be sold without reserve. This lot is subject to the following lot symbols: NMTNMT Veuillez noter que ce lot sera soumis à une TVA supplémentaire sur le prix d'adjudication. Please note this lot will be subject to additional VAT on the hammer price. For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com

Antique watercolour 1818 - Approx. image size 35cm x 25cm Antique Water colour painting circa 1818, the painting is framed and marked up as belonging to Leightons Studio.Leighton House was designed and built in 1865-6 by George Aitchison RA for his friend, the great Victorian artist and later President of the Royal Academy, Frederic, Lord Leighton (1830-1896). Progressively adapted to suit Leighton's specifications over the thirty years he lived here, the building includes a north-facing working studio with a picture slot for transferring Leighton's larger works - in its day, one of the sights of London. However, the house was also intended to be a showcase for Leighton's artistic taste, and for his extensive art collection, which included works by Corot, Millais, George Frederic Watts and Lawrence Alma-Tadema. The highlight remains the extraordinary Arab Hall (1877), which reflects Leighton's fascination with the Middle East along with his major collection of fifteenth-century Damascus tiles.Leighton House has been open to the public since 1929, and is situated alongside a number of other studio-houses that were built during the second half of the nineteenth century. Together, these demonstrate the wealth, status and taste of some of the most successful late-Victorian period artists. Though none are still available to visit, Leighton House runs regular tours of the area through the Holland Park Circle.

A BLUE AND WHITE MING-STYLE 'LINGZHI' MOONFLASK, BIANHU, QING DYNASTYChina, 18th-19th century. Finely potted after Ming dynasty prototypes, the flattened globular body surmounted by a slender tubular neck flanked by a pair of cloud-shaped handles, painted on each side in fifteenth century style with a flowering, leafy branch bearing five lychee above a band of froth-capped waves encircling the slightly concave and unglazed oval base, the slender neck rising from a band of scrolls and painted with a band of upright leaf tips.Provenance: French private collection. Acquired from the inventory of the Chateau de Paradis - see pictures where the Bianhu is stilll in place in the collection. Condition: Excellent condition with minor wear and firing flaws, such as pitting, dark spots, and firing cracks, as well as some minor glaze lines to the body and neck.Weight: 1,941 gDimensions: Height 28.2 cmThe design of the lychee branch follows that of a well-known Yongle prototype. Many Qing-dynasty flasks were consciously inspired by early Ming patterns, some adhering closely to the original while others revised the designs to suit Qing-dynasty tastes, the present bianhu belonging to the latter category, clearly taking advantage of the abundance of cobalt blue in those days.Literature comparison: Early Ming moonflasks of this type have been widely published. Compare the Yongle example in the British Museum, from the Oppenheim Collection, illustrated in Oriental Ceramics, The World's Great Collections, vol. 5, Tokyo, 1981, no. 161; one illustrated by Garner, Oriental Blue and White, London, 1954, pl. 30a, originally from the Clark Collection and illustrated again in Masterpieces of Old Chinese Ceramics from the Ataka Collection, Tokyo, 1975, col. pl. 76; and another in the Matsuoka Museum of Art, illustrated in Selected Masterpieces of Ceramics, Matsuoka Museum of Art, Japan, 1984, pl. 50, Japan, 19.Auction result comparison: Compare a closely related moonflask, dated to the Yongzheng period, of very similar design and related size, at Christie's New York in Fine Chinese Ceramics and Works of Art on 20 September 2005, lot 343, sold for USD 553,600.

Spanish school, follower of DIEGO RODRIGEZ DE SILVA Y VELÁZQUEZ (Seville, 1599 - Madrid,1660); 17th century."The Jester Sebastián de Morra".Oil on canvas. Re-coloured.It presents damages in the pictorial surface.Measurements: 40 x 26 cm.This work replicates the well-known portrait of Sebastián de Morra nicknamed "the cousin", which was painted by Velázquez around the year 1645. The original work is currently in the Prado Museum in Madrid. In both pieces we see the representation of the jester of King Philip IV, who at first formed part of the court of the Cardinal Infante Don Fernando of Austria, and after his death moved to the protection of Prince Baltasar Carlos, who bequeathed him several objects in his will. Both portraits have the same composition, with the jester in the centre of the scene, seated against a neutral background that gives the figure all the prominence. Despite the damage that can be seen in this work, and the tonal darkness that does not allow all the details to be made out, it is possible to see the suit with lace at the neck, a symbol of distinction and royal protection that the sitter enjoyed, as this type of garment was forbidden for anyone who did not belong to the aristocracy. The work belongs to a series of portraits painted by Velázquez with the intention of decorating the secondary or transitional rooms of the palace (corridors, staircases, etc.). This set of portraits has generated great interest throughout the history of art, and has therefore been widely debated, with theories such as that these works were painted by Velázquez with the intention of dignifying the sitters and criticising the society of the time.Diego Rodríguez de Silva y Velázquez (1599-1660) was the leading artist of the court of King Philip IV of Spain and Portugal, and of the Spanish Golden Age. He began painting in a precise tenebrist style, later developing a freer form characterised by bold brushstrokes. In addition to numerous interpretations of scenes of historical and cultural importance, he painted dozens of portraits of the Spanish royal family and commoners, culminating in his masterpiece Las Meninas (1656). Velázquez's work became a model for 19th-century realist and impressionist painters. In the 20th century, artists such as Pablo Picasso, Salvador Dalí and Francis Bacon paid homage to Velázquez by reinterpreting some of his most iconic images.

I served in Northern Ireland 6 times on Operational Tours. Was in Besbrooke when the troubles were still happening my 1st Tour was scary as patrolled near the border of Republic of Ireland. Thankfully nothing happened to me or the guys in the Royal Irish. One of the Tours in NI I was in the middle of public riots and was a Medical Assistant we had a few lucky scrapes and some unlucky ones. My Regimental Sergeant Major got whacked in the goolies by a returning rubber bullet. We all flanked our shields I never had one as I was running around helping the troops with any cuts or scrapes and zoned in to locate the person who threw the rubber projectile. We found him and surrounded him and got him into an army heavily armoured Land Rover where him and our RSM sorted things out. Basically he came out of the vehicle like a rag doll and we threw him over to the police. Who were cowering behind us whilst we got the brunt of it all. The best time was in Forkhill were I was in charge of my own little medical bay and went on patrol with the troops every few days as well to support them with any minor injuries and had authority to call in air support for any major injuries. I was in Milan Platoon in the Kosovo War in 1999 and was the platoon medic as well. I was young as only in 5 years and kept myself to myself. I enjoyed brushing up on medical skills. I was not employed as a medic joining army. I was infantry but it didn’t suit me because I always thought there was much more than just running around with a machine gun which I did carry most of the time in Kosovo GPMG. Medical Stuff suited me at that time and one of the troops shouted my name one morning when I was guarding a compound. Alarm bells where going off in my head and I shouted for someone to relieve me as someone needed me ASAP. When I got there someone I dearly knew was holding his throat gasping for air as I found out on closer examination something he ate was lodged in his throat. I got that out and at the same time requested for transport to get him to nearest hospital. Everyone that morning were panicking I was so calm and not afraid to tell people what to do and afterwards when he came back from hospital he thanked me and said he was glad I was there to help him. I finished that awful tour and got posted to the medical centre where I worked for 5 years. I enjoyed it but did many exercises and was a medic on Tour in Iraq during the war. Op Telic 1 it was the one with the Lt Col in 1 Royal Irish whom said his famous speech and was one of the many who stood there listening to it before we went to War against the Iraqi’s. I had my fair share of casualties to deal with on that Tour. I just kept going and did my best to stay away from stray bullets I also did a Operational Tour in Sierra Leone West Africa. The heat was horrendous 55 degrees and even with the constant rain. Awful. But in the Royal Irish we made the best out of it with what we had. Just before I arrived as the regiment split the tour in half 11 of our troops were captured by the west side boys. The commander in charge of going in and killing 50 of the west side boys with having 1 casualty themselves was my Platoon and Commanding Officer in the Royal Irish. I was away a lot from my wife so needed something different. After speaking to my RSM whilst being his medic for his troops said he was looking for someone to work with him. I jumped at the chance. I worked as a Regimental Police NCO. They gave me a nice name. Sammy the Bastard. I was friendly, fair but firm. It was a different position before I was caring for the troops as their medic now I was educating and instilling discipline towards them but I showed them how to do things the correct way that I was taught. I did achieve section student whilst in basic training God knows how. I always messed up with the wrong step at drill practises and took ages to iron my clothes to get them nice and sharp for parades. I went on tour to Afghan Op Herrick 1 and worked with the Commanding Officers Tactical Group and my RP duties when not on Patrol. A few things happened that made me lose the plot. My boss the Provost Sgt always made excuses to get off duties and not do his bit. No one had the guts to say anything. I had enough one day and he pushed my buttons I came off a 2 day duty shattered and told him he was on next and he said for me to do it I just lost it and the air turned blue. He could have charged me but I said he was sorry and got up and did his duty. I didn’t know at the time that the RSM was in the next tent and he heard everything. Later that night he asked if I wanted to work with the Garrison Provost who patrolled the whole of Helmand base in Afghan. It was a blessing in disguise and I enjoyed the experience. We were the first troops that all the Afghan civilians seen who helped work and stay on the massive base and we did patrols around the different camps inside. I finally returned back to the Royal Irish and did a few weeks before heading back home to UK. I left that job because didn’t get on with the Provost Sgt but couldn’t wait to see the back of him. I worked in the WO’s and Sgt’s Mess as Mess 2 I/C for a year just as a stop gap until something else turned up as I was due Promotion to Full Corporal. The Sgts and above didn’t want me to leave the Mess as they said I worked hard and provided them a great service. I worked there the weekend after I left after a year as a Full Corporal and they all bought me drinks as a thank you which was nice of them . The next job I did was as a Regimental Postal NCO in peace time and war did both in Iraq again and Afghan. I worked as a Post NCO until my end of service and got recommended as a Sgt to work in another department but actually because I thoroughly enjoyed my job and was actually getting paid as a Sgt I declined moving. I worked with 3 Scots in Fort George as their Post NCO and enjoyed my time there I never deployed with them on exercise or tours but made sure their important mail was sent to them ASAP when requested and some few extra welfare parcels. When I was a Post NCO with the Royal Irish on tour in Iraq I was given an exemplary record by the Bastion Camp Commander one of the QM’s out of 42 personnel I was the Top of the League. My time in the army has had its ups and downs but I wouldn’t have changed it for the world.’
